  • WELCOME TO THE CALL -- WE ARE RECORDING TONIGHT’S CLASS As people come on line, listen to see when the muting needs to take place. INFO -- you can download a workbook for this class at www.lifeonpurpose.com/vvcresources If as the class goes along you have questions you’d like for us to address at the end, please send them in to admin@lifeonpurpose.com We will answer as many as time allows and will be happy to respond to any we can’t get to via email back to you.
  • Let’s start our journey along the Purposeful Path with a question -- Are we living on purpose? It’s useful to look at this both individually and collectively if we’re interested in not only healing ourselves but also the world. After all each of us is a unique and integral part of the whole that we refer to as ‘the world.’ So, what does this rather sizable number represent?
  • if you said, the estimated population of the world, you’re right. Now, of those almost 7 billion people on planet Earth, what percentage would you ‘guesstimate’ actually know their life purpose and are living true to it? Over the years, when I’ve asked this question of many people, almost all the answers I’ve heard back are abysmally small -- anywhere from .5 % to, 1 %, to maybe 3 or 4%. In other words, most people agree that collectively we’re far from living on purpose in a world on purpose. So, why so low? Well, that’s what we’ll be exploring today -- what I’ve found are four of the major roadblocks or obstacles to knowing your life purpose and living true to it. But before we move on, I’d like you to take a moment to write down your best response to this question - “What is your life purpose?” Just give it your best shot at this point. Write it down so you can refer to it as we go along.
  • And as you’re writing down your best shot at that question, here’s a little more info that confirms that we have some work to do in bring a deeper sense of purpose to our lives and to the world. This info is from the book, Cool Carries for Dummies, where one of the ‘cool careers’ they covered was life purpose coaching. With the people they surveyed, 52% of the men and 46% of the women admitted to having “no clear sense of purpose in their life.” Personally, I’m afraid it’s much worse than that.
  • Before we look at the four major obstacles to knowing your life purpose, let’s look at a few of the common symptoms people often experience when they’re not clear about their purpose.
  • Now, let’s look at the 4 most common obstacles people bump into that keeps them from knowing their life purpose and/or from living true to it. Here’s an overview. Now, let’s look at each of them in more depth. Well, first thing to notice is that we don’t really need to spend a lot of time on number one because if you’re a part of this teleclass, you’ve already overcome it. You are asking the question. You are aware that we all have a greater purpose to life than just surviving to the next weekend. Or at least, you’re willing to consider the possibility. So, let’s look at obstacle #2.
  • Here we need to make a distinction -- one that is foundational to the Life On Purpose Process -- the road map we use to help people overcome all these obstacles. So, if you’re not familiar with what a “coaching distinction” is the easiest way to grasp the idea is to think of a distinction like a lens through which you look at the world, that allows you to see something about yourself and the world more clearly than you could without the lens. (Example) So, the distinction we want to make here is that there are two perspectives of what ‘a’ life purpose is -- the cultural perspective and the Life On Purpose perspective.
  • The other half of this distinction is called the Life On Purpose Perspective. And since it’s fairly new and may even occur as a ‘radical shift in thinking’ let’s look at this in more depth using a visual metaphor to explore this further.
  • So, looking from the Life On Purpose Perspective that says your life purpose is the context, vessel or container into which you pour your life, the next question to ask is what are the qualities one might look for a life purpose to have that would result in a satisfying and fulfilling life? There are 3 primary ones. What are the ingredients that you could use that would result in a life purpose with these qualities. In other words, what is the recipe for a powerful, long lasting yet flexible life purpose? Before proceeding -- take a moment and look back to what you wrote down in response to the question - What is a life purpose? What are you noticing about what you said your life purpose is? What insights are you seeing?
  • Now, let’s look at obstacles #3 and this one is a big one. Many people who may be asking the question, may even have a sense that their life purpose is more than just what they’re here to do, get stopped by fear and/or lack-based thinking. So, let’s explore this a bit more by considering a second coaching distinction -- You have not one, but two ‘purposes’ -- two powerful forces that can shape your life. You have your true, or Divinely Inspired Life Purpose which if you will recall, arises from Universal Love….and you also have your Inherited Purpose. NOTE - IN THE LOP PROCESS WE HELP PEOPLE TO UNCOVER THEIR SPECIFIC AND UNIQUE IP, WE PULL THE CURTAIN ON IT SO IT ISN’T ABLE TO HIDE OUT IN THE BACKGROUND OF YOUR AWARENESS.
  • Obstacle #4 is that many people simply don’t know how to go about getting clear about their life purpose. After all, how many of you had a class in school entitled Clarifying Your Life Purpose 101, or anything similar to it? So personally, I’m aware of two approaches. Now, I’m not saying there aren’t others. These are the two that I’m most familiar with -- the first because it’s the approach I used initially, and the second which came to me after being so frustrated with the first that I asked for some “Divine Guidance” and answer to two questions: “Does it really need to take people thirty, forty, fifty or more years to become clear about their life purpose? Isn’t there some way to shorten the learning curve just a bit?” From those questions emerged the Life On Purpose Process — which is the heart and soul of our work here at Life On Purpose Institute
  • Take a moment to ponder this: How might the Life On Purpose Process help you answer the question: “What is my life purpose?” so you can get on with the joyful challenge of designing your life on purpose? You see, it really doesn’t have to take decades to finally become clear about your purpose in life. Over the past 14+ years we at Life On Purpose Institute have been privileged to guide thousands of people through the Life On Purpose Process. Just the other day, I received this message from someone who I reconnected with about 7-8 years after she went through the Process: “ I'm happily married for a year and a half now, i am a manager with an institutional firm that specializes in coaching freshmen college students and I am in graduate school. The catalyst for me stepping my life up was the connection with LOPI and i will always be grateful.”
  • Take a moment to imagine knowing your life purpose with such crystal clarity that it had the power to shape your life -- it shaped your thoughts, your experience of life, your actions, your words and communication. It shaped your life in your work and career, and in your relationships with your family and loved ones. In fact, over time each and every day would be shaped by your life purpose so you would become known as your life purpose…as who you truly are at the core of your being. What would such a life be like?
  • I don’t believe in giving people a ‘hard sell,’ especially on something as important and yet sensitive as this. So, all I’m going to say is that if some of what we covered tonight resonated with you -- not only did it make sense intellectually, but more importantly, touched your heart in some way, then I encourage you to check out the two web pages: Complete info about the Virtual Video Coach: www.lifeonpurpose.com/virtualcoach Valuable Resources: www.lifeonpurpose.com/vvcresources And I use the word, ‘encourage’ intentionally because it takes real courage to step onto the Purposeful Path. QUOTE - – Patanjali, Indian philosopher When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all of your thoughts break their bonds: Your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction, and you find yourself in a new, great, and wonderful world. Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive and you discover yourself to be a greater person than you ever dreamed yourself to be.
