Law Uncovered - Applying for LPC or BPTC Presentation Transcript

  • 1. Applying for your LPC or BPTC course
    Jane Standley
    jane.standley@brunel.ac.uk
  • 2. The LPC
Clearing house for full time LPC – www.lawcabs.ac.uk
    First round closes 1 December
Part-time and distance learning options available but some full time courses are taught over 2 days
    Teaching styles vary
Course size varies but all do small group teaching
Some do bespoke courses for big firms but where you study won’t affect your training contract applications
Electives may affect training contract applications
THINK what you most need – more work experience, careers help, chance to meet a particular type of law firm, location near home, low cost, certain teaching style and find the course that’s best for you
    CoL guaranteed place scheme
Apply early if you are SURE
  • 3. The BPTC
Clearing house – opens 18 Oct – closed 7 Jan last year https://www.barprofessionaltraining.org.uk/s4/oa/candidates/start.asp
    Full and part-time options
Challenging application form and a fee
Need debating, mooting or other advocacy experience
    Around 50% of applications unsuccessful
No need to do entry test this year (except for Kaplan?) but may be invited to do so
Chambers will require 1st or 2.1 (mitigation?)
