Brain Computer Interfaces

 1. 1. FUTUROLOGY BRAIN COMPUTER INTERFACES BRUNO GARCIA
 2. 2. Thoughts x Bits
 3. 3. The Eletric Brain
 4. 4. Brain Input and Output
 5. 5. Devices Controlled by Thoughts
 6. 6. Applications Controlled By Thoughts

Gyroscope enables a cursor or camera to be controlled by head movements.

The headset uses wi-fi to connect to a computer.

Sensors respond to the impulses behind different thoughts; enabling the brain to influence gameplay directly.

Conscious thoughts, facial expressions, and non-conscious emotions can all be detected.

 7. 7. It’s Science Fiction Becoming Reality?

Thought control is a something we need to worry about?

Can we learn subjects and adquire skills just uploading software into our mind?

Could the science read our brain and predict our future thoughts ?

Could the science delete or record selective memories?

 8. 8. Advances x Limitations

The brain is incredibly complex. To say that all thoughts or actions are the result of simple electric signals in the brain is a gross understatement.

The signal is weak and interferences can happen. Read brain signals is like listening to a bad phone connection.

There are chemical process involved as well, wich electrodes can’t pick up.

A few companies are pioneers in the field of BCI. Most of them are still in the research stages, though a few products are offered commercially.
