ISCD Corporate Membership ISCD Corporate Membership Document Transcript

  • ISCD Corporate Membership Information Packet What Is ISCD? The International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD) is a not-for-profit organization providing a single resource for multiple scientific disciplines with an interest in bone mass measurement. ISCD membership stands at over 4,500 clinicians, technologists and corporate members. ISCD does not promote specific tests, technologies, or treatments. The ISCD Mission As an international organization, ISCD links multiple disciplines dedicated to clinical and educational aspects of bone densitometry by: • Enhancing greater knowledge and quality of densitometry among healthcare professionals; • Providing continuing education courses in bone densitometry for clinicians and technologists; • Increasing patient awareness and access to densitometry; and • Supporting clinical and scientific advances in the field. Membership Categories • Clinicians (i.e., MDs, NPs, PAs) are individuals who have post-graduate doctoral-level degrees or are non-physician practitioners whose state license entitles them to provide densitometry and similar services. • Scientists/Researchers (i.e., PhDs) are individuals who conduct research in the field of bone densitometry. • Technologists are healthcare professionals who perform bone density tests. • Corporate Memberships are for companies that maintain an equity position in a business in bone mass measurement technology, diagnostics, therapeutics or other related products (ie: pharmaceutical companies, equipment manufacturers, etc). Each Corporate Membership is entitled a specific number of complimentary memberships for their employees. Other employees of the company are welcome to join as an Industry Member if they do not qualify for membership under any other category. • Industry Members are individuals who work for a Corporate Member who do not otherwise qualify for membership under any other category. • Associate Members are residents or fellows in an approved training program. ISCD is the only society in the world to represent both clinicians and densitometry technologists ISCD members represent many specialties including: Adolescent Medicine Endocrinology Family Practice Geriatrics Internal Medicine Nephrology Nuclear Medicine OB/GYN Orthopedic Surgery Pediatric Orthopedics Pediatrics Physical Medicine Preventive Medicine Pulmonary Medicine Radiology Reproductive Endocrinology Rheumatology Sports Medicine Veterinary Medicine Women’s Health /home/pptfactory/temp/20101027125836/iscd-corporate-membership1479.doc 1
  • Individual Membership Benefits Journal of Clinical Densitometry (JCD) The Journal of Clinical Densitometry publishes the latest clinical research on the uses of bone mass and density measurements in medical practice, as well as state-of-the-art review articles on critical topics. The JCD is available at an additional charge for technologists and associate members. SCAN SCAN, ISCD’s quarterly newsletter, provides useful clinical information and case discussions regarding difficult densitometry cases, as well as helpful hints for everyday densitometry issues. ISCD Annual Scientific Meeting ISCD’s Annual Scientific Meeting is the most comprehensive meeting devoted entirely to bone densitometry. It is an opportunity to network, share knowledge and learn cutting-edge developments in the field of bone densitometry. ISCD members receive a discounted registration rate. ISCD Web Site www.iscd.org is your online source for events, education, member information, and society news. Members Online is a searchable membership directory available on our Web site that allows members to network worldwide. Annual Awards ISCD acknowledges outstanding scientific and clinical contributions in the field of bone densitometry at the Annual Scientific Meeting. Education and Certification In 1995, in response to requests from state regulatory agencies, reimbursement authorities, managed care organizations, and others with special interest in the quality delivery of bone measurement services, ISCD initiated a program of educational courses and offers certification for those who perform DXA scans and those who interpret the results. Bone Densitometry Courses are designed for clinicians and technologists. In addition, ISCD has developed a Vertebral Fracture Assessment (VFA) Course which is an advanced densitometry course that provides an overview of VFA technology. In 2005, ISCD premiered its new course - Understanding Your Patient’s Bone Density: An Introduction to Bone Density Course. Recertification ISCD Certification for Clinicians and Technologists is valid for five years. Clinicians and technologists can recertify by attending educational programs related to bone densitometry, such as the ISCD’s Bone Densitometry Course and the Annual Scientific Meeting. /home/pptfactory/temp/20101027125836/iscd-corporate-membership1479.doc 2
  • Public Policy and Official Positions With the evolution of bone densitometry, differences in technologies, acquisition techniques, reference databases, reporting methods, and terminology have developed. These differences may have adverse effects on patient care and the exchange of scientific information. To address these issues, the ISCD periodically holds Position Development Conferences, a process whereby a panel of experts makes recommendations for ISCD positions based on reviews of the scientific literature by the ISCD's Scientific Advisory Committee. ISCD Board-approved documents pertaining to the Official Positions will be published in the Journal of Clinical Densitometry and on www.ISCD.org. ISCD is increasing its voice with other related organizations and those agencies that have an impact on densitometry. With regular alerts to the membership and preparation of testimony where needed, ISCD is a strong advocate for the profession and our members.
