For more information, call 1-800-355-7944 or visit www.childrenshospital.org 1 Children's Hospital Boston's Department of Radiology provides comprehensive diagnostic imaging and interventional radiology services for infants, children and adolescents. The faculty consists of 35.5 full-time equivalent pediatric radiologists, neuroradiologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and interventional radiologists who are uniquely qualified to meet the imaging needs of children and their physicians. Each year, the faculty interpret more than 200,000 studies performed at the hospital and in satellite clinics in Lexington and Waltham. The department's organ-system approach to imaging means that radiologists who subspecialize in the disease or organ system under investigation will interpret the studies, regardless of the imaging technology used for the exam. Sedation or anesthesia, when needed, is expertly administered by an experienced team that includes pediatric sedation nurses, nurse practitioners and the hospital's pediatric anesthesiologists. However, sedation can sometimes be avoided through the use of age- appropriate distraction techniques that include video goggles, music, lighting and an MR simulator. All radiography equipment, including plain X-ray and computed tomography (CT) units, is specially designed or adapted for pediatric use. The hospital is committed to the ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) dosing standard and has been a leader in the nationwide Image Gently campaign to reduce radiation dose in children during imaging studies. Services available: computed tomography (CT) diagnostic radiology (X-ray and fluoroscopy) interventional radiology (vascular anomalies and non-vascular interventions) magnetic resonance imaging (MR or MRI) nuclear medicine and molecular imaging ultrasound CLINICAL PROGRAMS: Computed Tomography (CT) CT quickly produces highly detailed anatomic images of internal bones, organs and tissues, allowing rapid diagnosis of many conditions. conditions. Boston: 617-355-6310 Waltham: 781-216-1100 Diagnostic Radiology (X-ray and fluoroscopy) These modalities generate high-quality diagnostic images of the body, including abdomen, chest, extremities, gastrointestinal tract, skull, skull, spine, and urinary tract. Pulsed digital fluoroscopy limits radiation dose while creating diagnostic-quality images. Skilled child-life specialists help children and families through complex exams such as pediatric voiding cystourethrograms (VCUGs). X-ray scheduling: Boston: 617-355-6286 Lexington: 781-672-2100 Peabody: Waltham: 781-216-1100 Weymouth: Fluoroscopy scheduling: Boston: 617-355-6292 Lexington: 781-672-2100 Peabody: Waltham: 781-216-1100 Weymouth: Interventional Radiology (IR) IR studies include diagnostic and therapeutic procedures using angiography and a variety of vascular and nonvascular interventional radiology techniques appropriate for pediatric use. Image guidance is provided by fluoroscopy, ultrasound or CT as required. Boston: 617-355-6579 Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR or MRI) MR uses child-size coils and pediatric protocols and procedures to obtain the highest-quality images for a wide range of conditions. The "Try Without" program encourages some children ages 4-6 to attempt to undergo MR without sedation with the use of video goggles. Boston: 617-355-6300 or 6400 Peabody: Waltham: 781-216-1100 RADIOLOGY

Using radiopharmaceuticals, Children's specialists can accurately diagnose and treat a variety of congenital and acquired pediatric disorders. The division's PET scanner is the only unit in New England dedicated to pediatric patients. Boston: 617-355-7010 Waltham: 781-216-1100 Ultrasound High-frequency sound waves produce cross-sectional diagnostic images without the use of sedation or ionizing radiation. Boston: 617-355-7840 Lexington: 781-672-2100 Peabody: Waltham: 781-216-1100 Weymouth: Consultative services are available for physicians by calling 617-355-6286.
