HOW TO DRAW IN 3 POINT PERSPECTIVE LIKE A PRO!

  1. 1. HOW TO DRAW IN 3POINT PERSPECTIVEPRESENTED BY: Bruce Black Art.com
  2. 2. HAVE YOU EVERWONDERED HOWARTISTS DRAWBUILDINGS FROM ABIRDS EYE VIEW?
  3. 3. http://julieanimation.blogspot.ca/HOW ABOUT FROM AN ANT’S EYE VIEW?
  4. 4. Veri Apriyatno 2004 https://www.facebook.com/vapriyatnoALL YOU HAVE TO DO ISLEARN THIS SIMPLESYSTEM, AND THEN YOUTOO CAN DRAW IN THREEPOINT PERSPECTIVE!IT’S EASYAND FUN!
  5. 5. WHAT IS IT?THREE POINT PERSPECTIVE IS A DRAWING SYSTEM THATALLOWS THE ARTIST TO ACURATELY DEPICT LARGEBUILDINGS FROM THE VIEW OF LOOKING DOWN ONTHEM OR UP AT THEM.As the building falls away from the viewer, it seems togrow smaller and smaller. Just like in 2 pointperspective, the buildings also grow smaller as theymove towards the horizon.Sound complicated? It’s really not!
  6. 6. BIRD’S EYEVIEWFIRST TURN YOUR PAGEVERTICALLY AND DRAWA HORIZON LINE UPNEAR THE TOP OF YOURPAGE.TIP: THE HORIZON IS EQUAL TO YOUREYE LEVEL. SO, IF YOU WANT TODRAW A PICTURE THAT IS LOOKINGDOWN, YOU MUST PUT YOUR EYELEVEL (HORIZON LINE) UP HIGH.MAKE SENSE?
  7. 7. BIRD’S EYEVIEWNext add two points fairlyfar apart. Then draw avertical line between thepoints that is below yourhorizon line. The points are calledvanishing points becausethey represent wheretwo parallel lines appearto converge on thehorizon.
  8. 8. BIRD’S EYEVIEWThe next part is real easy. You simply put a third pointsomewhere below yourinitial vertical line.
  9. 9. BIRD’S EYEVIEWOkay, now draw twolines inside your “V”shape that gotowards your thirdpoint at the bottomof the page.THIRD POINT
  10. 10. BIRD’S EYEVIEWTHIS PART IS IMPORTANT !DRAW FROM THE TOPLEFT HAND CORNERTO THE RIGHT POINT.THEN DRAW FROMTHE TOP RIGHT HANDCORNER TO THE LEFTPOINT.
  11. 11. BIRD’S EYEVIEWGOOD JOB, IT’S STARTING TOLOOK LIKE A BUILDING.Just erase your extraorthogonal lines to cleanit up a bit. These are orthogonal lines. They areimaginary lines that travel back to thevanishing points. Notice howeverything gets smaller at the samerate?
  12. 12. BIRD’S EYEVIEWYOU DID IT!Now just remember thatanything you put on the buildingmust follow the rules of thesystem. Items put on the leftside must go to the left point.Items put on the right sidemust go to the right point.Vertical lines must go to thethird point.
  13. 13. BIRD’S EYEVIEWYOU DID IT!Now just remember thatanything you put on the buildingmust follow the rules of thesystem. Items put on the leftside must go to the left point.Items put on the right sidemust go to the right point.Vertical lines must go to thethird point.
  14. 14. BIRD’S EYEVIEWTip: As things move awayfrom you, they appear toget closer. Also, whenthings move down andaway, they appear to getcloser. Put your linescloser and closer as youmove away from thehorizon line (viewer’s eyelevel).
  15. 15. Here is a drawing similar tothe one we just did. Noticethat the windows getsmaller as they go down andaway from the viewer. It also helps to addadditional elements in forperspective. For example, people or mountains.
  16. 16. ANT’S EYE VIEWNow do a drawing from anant’s eye view! It’s verysimilar to the first drawingwith some changes.• Lower you horizon line.• Place your third point in the sky.• Make objects come closertogether as they go up.
  17. 17. Here is an example ofa tower seen frombelow.Just remember that anydetails you add mustcomply with the rules ofthe system!
  18. 18. NOTICE THAT THEEDGES OF THEBILLBOARD APPEAR TOBE AT AN ANGLEMOVING TOWARDS APOINT IN THE SKY.EVEN THE LETTERSFOLLOW THE RULE OF 3PT PERSPECTIVE.
  19. 19. Now that you’regetting the hang of it,here are someexamples.
