What is Child Abuse? <ul><ul><li>Child abuse is the physical, sexual, emotional mistreatment or neglect of a child. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>  </li></ul><ul><ul><li>There are four major categories of child abuse : neglect , physical abuse , emotional abuse and child sexual abuse. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>  </li></ul><ul><li>  </li></ul><ul><li>  </li></ul>
  3. 3. Physical Abuse <ul><ul><li>Physical abuse is the deliberate application of force to any part of a child's body which may result in a non accidental injury. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>  </li></ul>
  4. 4. Sexual Abuse <ul><ul><li>Sexual abuse is when an adult or youth uses a child for sexual purpose. </li></ul></ul>
  5. 5. Neglect <ul><li>Neglect occurs when a child's parents or caregivers do not provide the requiste attention to the child's emotional , psychological or physical development. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Emotional Abuse <ul><ul><li>Emotional Abuse involves acts by parents or caregivers that cause or could cause serious behavioural , cognitive, emotional or mental disorders. </li></ul></ul>

Punishments <ul><ul><li>Charges can range from, Sexual assault, failure to provide, sexual interference and Assault. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>  </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Any case that involves a child under the age of 18 will immediately be directed to the (C)hildren, (A)id, (S)ociety. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>  At that point CAS will have the option to remove the child, and the police can charge the clients involved or can even present jail time regarding the issue. </li></ul></ul>

General Statistics <ul><ul><li>A report of child abuse is made every 1o seconds. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>More than 5 children die everyday as a result of child abuse. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Approximately 80% of children that die from abuse are under the age of 4. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>About 30% of abused and neglected children will later abuse their own children. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>14% of all men in prison in the United States were abused as children. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>36% of all women in prison were abused as children. </li></ul></ul>
