Racial Segregation Racial segregation was the dark point in time after slavery was abolished. The common belief during this time was whites and blacks were separate but equal , which is a complete oxymoron.

Racial segregation was the dark point in time after slavery was abolished. The common belief during this time was whites and blacks were separate but equal , which is a complete oxymoron.

This would have been the feeling for most during segregation. If one person crossed the red line, fury broke loose.

Once one person crossed the line, fury broke loose. This is shown by Rosa Parks, who sat in the front of the bus, and refused to sit in the designated “colored” section. You can see the fury in his eyes

In 1961, the Freedom riders were a group of activists who rode through Southern Alabama on a bus mixed with whites and coloreds.

Sadly, on Sunday, May 14, 1961 - Mother's Day – many white men and women attacked one of their buses. Some were killed, the rest injured.

Martin Luther King jr., sometimes referred to as the “King,” stepped in to say something about segregation. He was shot in his hotel room at the Lorraine Hotel on April 4, 1968.

Without the abolition on slavery in 1969, not fully gone until 1989, Obama would not be in office.
