What Does Outstanding Job Mean? - Very Motivational Story!!! What Does Outstanding Job Mean? - Very Motivational Story!!! Presentation Transcript

  • What Does Outstanding Job Mean??? Created By Sompong Yusoontorn
  • This is the story of the man, who did the job beyond expectation of his boss This is what we called “Outstanding Job”
  • Manager of a Retail store in US asked “Do you have any sales experience?” “Sir, I was a salesman Back home in India”
  • Well, the boss liked the Indian chappie so he gave him the job. You start tomorrow!!! “I’ll come down after we close and see how you did.”
  • His first day on the job was rough but he got through it. After the store was locked up, The boss came down!!!
  • “How many sales did you make today?” Sir, just one sale!!!
  • “Just one? No! No! No!” By the way, how much was the sale for? “You see here our sales people average 20 or 30 sales a day!” “If you want to keep this job, you'd better be doing better than just one sale.”
  • “$101,237.64”
  • “$101,237.64?” What the hell did you sell?
  • “Sir, first I sold him small fishhook.” “Then I sold him medium fishhook.” “Then I sold him large fishhook.” Then I sold him new fishing rod and some fishing gear!!!
  • . “Then I asked him where he's going fishing and he said down on the coast,” “so I told him he'll be needing a boat, so we went down to the boating department.” And I sold him twin engine Chris Craft!!!
  • “Then he said he didn't think his Honda Civic would pull it,” “so I took him down to our automotive department.” And I sold him that 4 x 4 Blazer!!!
  • “I then asked him where He would be staying,” “and since he had no accommodation, I took him to camping department.” And I sold him one of those new Igloo 6 sleeper camper tents!!!
  • Then the guy said, “While we're at it, I should throw in about $100 worth… of groceries and two cases of beer
  • “You're not serious?” A guy came in here to buy a fishhook and you sold him a boat, a 4X4 truck and a tent?
  • No Sir, actually he came in to buy Anacin for his headache, “Well, fishing is the best way to relax your mind.” And I said,
  • The moral of this story is… How can you turn “ordinary work” into “extraordinary work”?
  • The story was continued… This is what we called “Outstanding Job” Now the boss sent Rocket Singh to solve problem of his CEO with A, B, and C.
  • The CEO took A, B, C, and Rocket Singh to the bank of a river He asked them to cross the river and reach the other side of the bank And bring the box back in less than an hour Without using the bridge!!!
  • GOOD JOB!!! "A" completed this task successfully by taking a shared boat for $20 And reported back to the CEO about the completion of the task assigned in 55 minutes. The CEO smiled and said,
  • VERY GOOD JOB!!! "B" reported back to the CEO that he did the job in 40 minutes. The CEO smiled and said, Now "B" hired a speed boat for $ 50 and crossed the river.
  • Before C started the work, he did some homework and realized "A” and "B" has done this task before. He realized that there is a need for Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for doing this task as… There was huge time and money variations!!!
  • He sat down and wrote down the detailed SOP for crossing the river, He documented the common mistakes people made, various means of achieving the tasks, and tricks to do the task efficiently, Within budget ($40) and on time (max time spent 1 hour)
  • You have done an EXCELLENT JOB!!! “C" did the job in 30 minutes by cutting some unnecessary process The CEO smiled and said, Now “C" hired a speed boat for $40 by using negotiation skill
  • Now Rocket Singh studied SOP from C for 5 minutes. He realized company is spending a lot of money in sending the person over This meant the rental expenses and the employee’s time & salary. So he decided not to cross the river by himself!!!
  • He just asked the boatman to bring the box by giving him $5. He went to Starbuck and bought coffee to drink. He sat down and cleared all the important works until he finished. Within 50 minutes the boatman brought the box to him at Starbuck!!!
  • Outstanding job Rocket, I am very proud of you!!! The CEO smiled and said, He didn’t only complete the assigned task within the time, But he also spent the money less than others. Moreover, he also finished all his important works!!!
  • “Sir, I have the good news to inform you.” “From now on, you no longer need to assign this task to anyone.” “The boatman will deliver it to us at $120 a month, because I can negotiate with him from $5 to $4.” This means we can save 5 times of A, 12.5 times of B and 10 times of C!!!
  • Thank You Very Much Sompong Yusoontorn The moral of this story is… How can you turn “complicated work” into “simpler one”? Out-of-Box thinkers are always premium and that is what every one… Constantly looks out for!!!
