  2. Charles M. Schulz passed away in February 2000 and left an American legacy. He produced 17,897individual comic strips, which are slowly being released as the complete Peanuts collection. WhenSchulz announced his retirement for health reasons in December 1999, Peanuts was in more than2,600 newspapers worldwide.
