1. 1. 10
Myths & Truths
By Seth Czerepak
Growth & Success
Letting go of the myths and applying the true principles of high achievement
2. 2. “When you discover for yourself, however dimly, that you are rooted in something that
is infinitely vast and potential, you have found the soil wherein you grow unconsciously into
a most wonderful tree, the tree of life blended with knowledge.” –N. Sri Ram
3. 3. Success is not an event, it's a process and a lifestyle. Those who don't approach it this way get stuck in the achievement for achievement's sake, they set one goal, achieve it and move on to the next one with little or no commitment to an overall purpose for their life.
4. 4. Having coached hundreds of people from all levels of achievement and studied thousands of pieces of success literature, I've collected ten of the most popular myths about personal growth and success. While these myths might be able to achieve a certain level of success, you will always reach a limit which can only be broken through by letting go of the myths and applying the true principles of high achievement...
5. 5. Myth #1 : You have to become goal oriented to be successful
Truth: Sociological studies show that 80% of the general population consists of people who are not goal oriented by nature but who are problem solvers. Plenty of people who are goal oriented are poor problem solvers or never take action on their goals...what good is that?
6. 6. Remember that the better you are at seeing problems before they occur and proactively executing solutions, the more successful you're going to be. The difference lies within your capacity for action.
7. 7. Myth # 2 : You have to be an optimist and think positively
Truth: What's the difference between the optimist who assumes that everything is going to be fine and thus never adjusts their approach or even takes action and the pessimist who assumes that it won't work out anyway and does nothing? There's no difference, because in both cases, nothing gets accomplished.
8. 8. Remember that it's the person who looks ahead and sees a potential outcome (either positive or negative) and becomes proactively involved in creating their desired outcome, instead of just watching things happen.
9. 9. Myth # 3 : Your thoughts "manifest" the results and circumstances of your life.
Truth: The words which are most commonly spoken by procrastinators are: "Let me think about it." or "You've given me a lot to think about." So what? Thinking is passive, it's actions which attract results into your life. People think and daydream about all kinds of things that they want. Do thoughts always lead to actions? No, that's the procrastination, which is the most common enemy of success.
10. 10. Remember that thoughts might be things, composed of energy and thought waves that is, but actions certainly give off more energy than thoughts and so it's your
actions which make all the difference.
11. 11. Myth # 4 : Changing the way you think is the first step to becoming successful.
Truth: If you want to create different results in your life, you have to start acting differently. Thinking that you are a certain way won't make you that way. More often it will cause you to become so committed to the illusion within your mind that you won't risk acting on it for fear that the illusion will be marred by the realities of trial and error.
12. 12. You know, all the things required in order to become a master of something. If you want to become successful, the first thing to change is your actions.
13. 13. Myth # 5 : Your freedom to choose is your greatest power; it gives you mastery over your life
Truth: Although you are free to choose your actions, you are not free to choose the consequences of those actions. Consequences are governed by the natural principles of cause and effect and you don't get to decide how that works. Your greatest power for achieving success is your ability to align your actions with natural principles.
14. 14. When you align your actions with natural principles, you discover a whole new kind of freedom: the freedom to enjoy the consequences that you really want instead of the freedom to do whatever you want...big difference.
15. 15. Myth # 6 : Self-confidence is essential to success and fulfillment
Truth: Self-awareness is infinitely more valuable than confidence. Confidence without clarity and self-awareness is a recipe for disaster because it's built on a faulty foundation. Anyone can fool themselves into being confident, but if you don't understand what drives you and what's inside you that could potentially hold you back, you lack the clarity required to control your own actions.
16. 16. More people fail in life as a result of inner conflict and adversity than because of outer conflict and adversity. When you have self-awareness, you can master your inner conflicts from a position of clarity and power instead of being blindsided by them.
17. 17. Myth # 7 : To be successful, you must model someone successful
Truth: Imitation will never help you discover your natural greatness or become who you were born to be. Study successful people, learn from them and apply what you learn in a way that compliments your personal goals, your desires, your talents and your personality...but don't model them. Instead, build self-awareness, discover who you really are and follow your own natural path in life.
18. 18. Remember that you are never going to be great at being someone else, at best you might become mediocre, but chances are you'll suck at it. Not to mention that the better you get at imitation the more insecure you'll become inside because you're not being true to yourself. You are the most influential person in your life and you are the secret to your own success and happiness.
19. 19. Myth # 8 : To be successful, you need written goals and a plan for achieving them
Truth: Habits are more important than goals and planning. A plan is an external tool, while habits are internal and become a part of your character. Many people create plans and become more attached to the plan than they are to the goal which it was created to achieve. In other words, when the plan stops working, they don't change it or scrap it for a new one.
20. 20. If you develop the habit of saving 10% of what you make and investing another 10%, you'll build financial freedom. If you develop the habit of being a better listener, you'll build better relationships, if you develop the habit of exercising every morning, you'll become healthier and more energetic.
Most important, habits become a part of your lifestyle and help you to enjoy success as a process rather than an event.
21. 21. Myth # 9 : Most people don't succeed because a lack of motivation
Truth: Motivation is no one's problem, it's lack of clarity and lack of direction. Most people are so damn motivated and busy that they can't keep up with themselves. The problem is that motivation can be a curse if you lack self-awareness, focus, a commitment to make a contribution to the needs of others and the ability to recognize whether you're in a season of sowing or a season of reaping.
22. 22. When a person is motivated, but that energy and motivation is sending them in the wrong direction or if they have conflicting desires within themselves, that person is going to wear themselves out or become frustrated fast. This is what causes people to give up and settle.
23. 23. Remember that more important than having motivation is to understand what you are motivated by, and this is why self-awareness if the foundation of personal achievement.
24. 24. Myth # 10 : Fear is the biggest enemy, and it must be overcome
Truth: This might just be the silliest and most misleading myth of all. Fear is not the greatest enemy of success, distraction and lack of focus is. There are times to fight and there are times to choose your battles and to exit the situation, fear provides the fuel and motivation to do either...the only thing that makes it 'bad" or "good" is the action which you take in response to it.
25. 25. Remember that the same is true with any emotion: happiness, sadness, anger, frustration, jealousy...all can fuel either positive or negative actions or they can be buried. To repress or deny an emotion is a waste of energy and when a powerful emotion is buried, you bury it alive and it's only a matter of time before it claws its way back out.
26. 26. Remember that there's no point in trying to "overcome" an emotion, rather, channel the energy towards becoming proactively involved in creating the circumstances that you truly desire.
27. 27. So those are the ten popular myths of personal achievement. As you can see, there is a common theme here when it comes to the true principles of achievement and it's based on your capacity to take action. Change your thoughts now for your success!!!
28. 28. “You are the most influential person in your life and you are the secret to your own success and happiness.”
Thank You Very Much
Sompong Yusoontorn
