3. What is Save-A-Thon?
3
Background
Story: A Boy and a Ball
This little Ghanaian boy politely asked me for a ball
in 2012. I didn’t have one but promised to bring him
and his friends soccer balls with my 12 year-old
daughter soccer goalies as soon as I could. 9 months
later we delivered 100 balls to him and many other
kids. This is how Save-A-Thon For Africa was born.

5. The Save-A-Thon Mission
5
Save Lives by Changing Futures
We believe that every life is precious and, therefore, worth whatever effort and
investment it takes to ensure it’s lived to its fullest.
We believe that those with nothing to lose—disadvantaged African youth—are
either most likely to choose a life of violence/crime OR are most willing to do the
hard work of making fundamental change.
We provide a soccer and education platform so that these youth see who they can
become and choose a life of greatness, unafraid of change.
This is how Save-A-Thon saves lives.

shy away from and that lead them (and us) to reach full potential.

and show that Americans care about them and their future.
Motivate

How Do We Change Futures? E-M-C
Regular humanitarian contributions to Nigeria
18. Big Problems = Big Opportunities
Problems
100mm Nigerians live on < $1/day
~40% of girls are illiterate
Youth Unemployment is 38%
Boko Haram, gangs, and radicalism threaten the peaceful
coexistence of Christians & Muslims in Africa’s biggest democracy
Most youth have little reason to hope for bright futures
Few youth have productive activities to occupy their time/energy
All these problems lead to despair and unwise life choices
18
We will change the pervasive culture of corruption & stagnation
by inspiring youth with real opportunities & reliable leadership.
19. Big Problems = Big Opportunities
Opportunities
Engage Nigeria’s most precious resource, its youth, with a
compelling educational platform that engenders real hope.
Directly impact the way education is delivered in Nigeria and pave
the way for “real-life” business ventures for students.
Provide employment to local teachers and business people
involved in building and operating the Academy.
Football is the glue that binds these youth together in pursuit of
their best selves academically and athletically.
19
There will be a direct correlation between the greatness these youth
achieve and Nigeria’s ability to lead Africa’s largest democracy.

What does BRIDGES Stand For?
Boldness: Change-going from better to best-requires hard work.
The catalyst that gets us out of our comfort zone and off to work
is a bold idea and the passion to make it a reality.
Resilience: Change is a war between your dreams and comfort zones.
Steel yourself for the battles ahead. Stay the course. Rise each time
you fall. Resistance is often a sign you are on the right path.
Independence: If you don’t control your destiny, someone or some-
thing else will. Make decisions quickly before complacency & medio-
crity talk you out of it. No one owes you anything.
Discipline: Success or failure is determined by how much discipline
you muster to stay true to the bold ideas you are chasing and the con-
viction that the road you are on will lead to your true destiny.
Generosity: We get more by giving of ourselves…and it feels better.
Make a legacy. Leave the world and its inhabitants in better condition
than you found it.
Ethics: Find your core values and be true to them, always! Do what
you promise, or don’t make the promise. Stay true to yourself and
others in the face of opposition, risk, and trials
Strength: Stay mentally & physically disciplined so you can work hard.
Push tirelessly to relentlessly to deliver extraordinary results
