  • 2. What is the Leaving Certificate Applied? A self-contained two-year Leaving Certificate programme aimed at preparing students for working life or Post Leaving Cert Courses.
  • 3. Who is it for? Students who are not catered for by other Leaving Certificate.
  • 4. I decided to do LCA because I felt it would help me learn more about life today.
  • 5. What I liked about it was the fact that you got credits as you went along and I liked doing the tasks and assignments.
  • 6. I wanted to do LCA because it was a more active course and was very different from the Traditional Leaving Certificate.
  • 7. I chose to do LCA because I enjoyed doing project work and independent research.
  • 8. I loved the idea of doing projects and assignments in LCA so that’s why I chose to do it.
  • 9. What is it for? Preparing students for adult & working life
  • 10. What is it for? Recognises talents of all pupils
  • 11. What is it for? Promotes communication & decision making skills
  • 12. What is it for? Applies knowledge and skills to the solution of real problems
  • 13. Curriculum Can Include: Vocational Preparation & Guidance English & Communications Mathematical Computers Horticulture Construction Studies Hotel Catering And Tourism Art Spanish & Irish Leisure & Recreation Social Education
  • 14. Assessment Satisfactory completion of Modules 62 credits (31%) 7 Student tasks 70 credits (35%) Final examinations 68 credits (34%) Total 200 credits (100%)
  • 15. Certificate awarded at three levels: Distinction (85-100%) (170 - 200 credits) Merit (70-84 %) (140 - 169 credits) Pass (60-69 %) (120 - 139 credits)

  • 17. “I think it matures you a bit more and it really prepares you for when you leave school”

  • 19. I really loved the four sessions of work experience

Well prepared for further study. 2. Good at dealing with pressure. 3. Will have learned more from books. 4. Be competent academically
