  4. 4. College isn’t for everyone, plain and simple. There are a lots of reasons for not going to college.
  5. 5. Our culture still pushes leaving cert students towards 3rd level.
  6. 6. Statistics show huge earning gaps between leaving cert students and degree students
  7. 7. There are alternatives that show that doesn’t have to be the case.
  8. 8. The financial burdens of going to college with no purpose can be huge.
  9. 9. There are other ways that you can live a proud life without going to college, still be happy and make good money as well.
  10. 10. Apprenticeships A great alternative to going to a traditional college, especially if you like working with your hands.
  11. 11. Apprenticeships You can start earning money while you’re in training. It’s hard work, but over time, you can earn a very nice salary of over €70,000
  12. 12. Apprenticeships You can also start your own business.
  13. 13. Army When it comes to job security, promotional opportunities, and even education, the military is second to none.
  14. 14. Army Starting wages for basic enlisted personnel are pretty low but most of your basic living needs are taken care of: food, clothing and pension
  15. 15. Army If you enjoy adventure, there are plenty of opportunities.
  16. 16. Garda A permanent position that offers a generous salary, career progression and respect. You will be making a positive contribution to your community too.
  17. 17. Volunteer or Gap Year If you’re undecided you should consider volunteering before going to college or any other path.

  24. 24. Entrepreneurship Many famous entrepreneurs don’t have a college degree: Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Richard Branson.
  25. 25. Entrepreneurship If you have an idea, consider giving that a shot before going to college. When young it’s easier to take a risk and get started.
  26. 26. Entrepreneurship Plus, you will learn more about yourself than any degree could teach you.
  27. 27. Entrepreneurship If you have an entrepreneurial spirit, this path may be smarter for you than going to college.
  28. 28. Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) courses are available online and can provide excellent employment opportunities when abroad. Also, a nice addition to a C.V.
  29. 29. So………….. College will be waiting for you at any point whether it be a year from now or when you are a mature student, even if you are sixty years old.
