  • 3. CREATION AND HISTORYOF YOUTUBEYouTube was created in February of2005 by Steve Chen, Chad Hurley,and Jawed Karim, all formeremployees of PayPal. The sitemade its official debut in Novemberof that year.The website quickly took off andwas reaching twenty million peopleper month by the summer of 2006.In October 2006, Google boughtYouTube for $1.65 billion.

  • 5. PURPOSEYouTube allows anybody with access to the internet to watchvideos about any topic or subject imaginable. They can beeducational, inspirational, music videos, vlogs (video blogs),sketch comedy, promotional, etc., etc…In addition to internet access, those who have the rightequipment can record and upload their own videos foreveryone to see. Many people like to create videos as anenjoyable hobby, while most companies use the site forpromotional purposes through both advertisements anduploading their own videos.

HOW IS YOUTUBEUSED?Education: While YouTube is used more for entertainment,there are many educational videos on the website as well.Teachers will sometimes used these videos to support alesson or convey a message in a way that students can reallyconnect to.Home: The site is used much more leisurely in the home, asfamilies will often watch videos that they find funny orotherwise entertaining.Business: Businesses can use advertisements, which areprevalent on YouTube, to promote their products and/orservices. They can also reach out to their customers throughvideos they upload themselves.

However, YouTube is actually a large companybased in San Bruno, California, and just like any othercompany, they hire many workers to help run the site.One position that seemed particularly interesting to me wasthat of Marketing Programs Manager. This position isresponsible for the site’s mobile marketing programs andworking directly with mobile partners on ways to promote thewebsite.
