What Is A Welding Helmet - Presentation Transcript

    1. What is a Welding Helmet? Welding is a task that needs to be done with due care and precautions. It is very crucial to protect yourself with all the accessories because the process of welding may cause harm to you. While doing any type of welding, it is very important to protect your eye to prevent corneal damage. The UV rays produced at the time of welding causes great damage to your eyes. Therefore, it becomes obligatory to all the welders to wear a protective Welding Helmet covering the entire face. This helmet will protect you form the sparks and the flying materials produced from the process of welding. The welding helmet has an eyepiece of a lens shade from which the welder can look at his weld. A heavily darkened and polarized lens lets only a small amount of light to come in. the darkness of the lens makes it difficult to observe anything from it besides the welding light. Thus, this auto-darkening Welding Helmet has gained more popularity nowadays. The Welding Helmet is designed with an aim to protect the welder form the dangers of welding. The special darkened eye shield in the helmet protects the cornea of the eyes from being damaged. This condition is referred to as arc eye. The eye-protection attribute of the Welding Helmet prevents the retinal damage of the eyes that may cause great harm to the eyes. The auto-darkening helmet works exactly according to its name. The lens of the helmet darkens automatically as the light form the welding begins to flash. Without the auto- darkening feature, the lens shade would have been completely black, thus making it impossible to see in front of you without raising the helmet. Welding Helmet also has light sensors. These sensors indicate when to darken the lens shade of the helmet. The light sensor is featured on the outside of the mask that is very useful to protect some conditions like arc flash, or any other unexpected eye exposure to the welding arc. There are two types of Welding Helmets available in the market. These include the solar powered Welding Helmet and the battery powered Welding Helmet. No doubt, the functioning of both these helmets are similar and of good quality only with a minute difference. The difference lies in the fact that the solar powered Welding Helmet has some advantages over the battery powered Welding Helmet. There is no on-off switch present on the solar powered helmet, hence no need to worry about leaving the mask turned off accidentally. It can be charged naturally using the solar energy, thus does not require battery chargers. To know more about welding and various welding machines, click here
