  • 1. What is MyPlate• Part of communications initiative based on 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans to help consumers make better food choices• Designed to remind Americans to eat healthfully• Illustrates the five food groups using a familiar mealtime visual, a place setting
  • 2. FRUIT• Any fruit or 100% fruit juice counts as part of the Fruit Group. – fresh, canned, frozen, dried
  • 3. VEGETABLES• Any vegetable or 100% vegetable juice counts as a member of the Vegetable Group. – fresh – frozen – canned – dried – dehydrated
  • 4. GRAINS• Any food made from wheat, rice, oats, cornmeal, barley or another cereal grain is a grain product.• Whole grains VS Refined grains• At least half of all the grains eaten should be whole grains
  • 5. PROTEIN• All foods made from meat, poultry, seafood, beans and peas, eggs, processed soy products, nuts, and seeds are considered part of the Protein Foods Group
  • 6. MILK• All fluid milk products and many foods made from milk are considered part of this food group.
  • 7. NUTRITION AS A CAREER• CLINICAL NUTRITION – Hospitals – Nursing care facilities – Out patient care centers – Health centers and clinics – Exercise and fitness centers
  • 8. NUTRITION AS A CAREER• Community and Public Health Nutrition – Public health departments – Home health agencies – Social service agencies – Community centers – Federal, state, and local government – Daycare centers – Health and recreation clubs
  • 9. NUTRITION AS A CAREER• Food Service Management – Hospitals – Schools – Company cafeterias – Correctional facilities – Camps – Restaurants/Hotels
