If you’ve created something useful, and you’re supporting it and maintaining it, you should be paid for your work.
Pricing is the most hairy aspect of selling add-ons.
There are a ton of numbers to choose from!
But don’t worry about it right away.
It’s hard to judge how much something is worth before it even exists.
So hold off until you’re finished.
Paul Burdick recently gave us a little insight into how Solspace prices their add-ons.

But this approach leads to prices that aren’t very memorable, and they’re even slightly intimidating.

Try to look at your product from the customers’ perspective.
Keep in mind that your customers don’t really care how difficult or time-consuming it was to write. Sure, some might appreciate it, but not with their wallets. So don’t factor that in. Just focus on the usefulness of your product.
In the end, you’re just looking for a number that feels right. Something that you would pay.
If you release something for free, people will download it and try it out
