One of the largest franchisee is Michigan, Dortch Enterprises, owns and operates 42 Subway restaurants in South Eastern Michigan. Subway is rated #1 franchisee in the country and has a rapid growth rate significantly increasing day-in and day-out .
Subway was started by a college student named Fred DeLuca and a family friend by the name of Dr. Peter Buck. Mr. DeLuca borrowed $1,000 from his business partner and together they started the company. Fred DeLuca is still the president of Subway.
The very first Subway restaurant opened on the 28 th of August, 1965. Fred DeLuca and Dr. Peter Buck started it and called the restaurant Pete’s Super Submarines.
