Transcript of "Brain Cell IT - About our company"

  1. 1. Software analysed with brains. Brain Cell ITAbout our companyI used this presentation to talk for about 20minutes about our company and what wedo, and this in schools or at universities orfor other acquintainces. It is not the aim to go in detail aboutanalysis, but to give a global view. The semi-transparant sticky notes denotewhat is said during the presentation.
  2. 2. I have a background as consultantdeveloper in Microsoft environments(.NET, C#, SQL Server) and Iworked for Capgemini at clients asExxon, government, Manpower andothers.Currently I work as a consultantanalyst and I am founder, ownerand manager of my company whereI have all-round tasks (sales, HR,PR, administration and so on). 12/03/12 Brain Cell IT bvba 2
  3. 3. I live in Antwerp. And our company Brain Cell IT is also headquartered in Antwerp.12/03/12 Brain Cell IT bvba 3
  4. 4. This is our headquarters. In 2006 Brain Cell IT started withconsultancy activities. This meanswe fulfill our assignments at ourcustomers. These assignmentsconsist of analysis tasks for softwareprojects, mainly functional analysis, but sometimes also businessanalysis based on the experience webuilt up.Our customers are big companiesand multinationals in differentsectors, mainly Banking and payrollcompanies.References: De post (Belgian post),BNP Paribas Fortis, JNJ, SD Worx,Acerta. 12/03/12 Brain Cell IT bvba 4
  5. 5. But first, where do we fit?As well in the Waterfall model asin Scrum an analysis periodbefore development is forseen(in Scrum possibly in everysprint). But actually an analyst works inevery step of a project: (s)he Environments in which we oftenhelps in estimations, interacts work are: •Microsoft .NET or Java with SQL EVERYWHERE!with the business analyst, withthe testers, with the developers Server, Oracle or other DBMSand so on. •Windows and webapplications We try to be technology independent but we have to deal with technical limitations. 12/03/12 Brain Cell IT bvba 5
  6. 6. Uh! Analysis? An analyst is as an architect: an architectsketches and writes down a blueprint onbehalf of the clients to be build by “Bob theBuilder”.An analyst studies specific businessrequirements of certain processes. An analyst is a key player in a project. An analysis is as a contract: it is used tomake agreements between the differentparties, to describe the functionalities, andto define what is in and out of scope. An analysis should clearly specify what willbe created and state what won’t be.The analysis translates the business needsto something which is understandable andprogrammable by developers. 12/03/12 Brain Cell IT bvba 6
  7. 7. Deliverables An analyst must document the system in a clear and easy understandable way by writing documents and drawing diagrams and screen designs. We do this with UML and use case descriptions. A picture is worth a thousand words. For this reason, a diagram or a screen sketch is a valuable element in business as well as in functional analysis.12/03/12 Brain Cell IT bvba 7
  8. 8. That’s not all Folks! Which other tasks does the analyst have? Interviewing, doing workshops, prioritizing requirements, informing testers, developers and other interested people (stakeholders), drafting screen designs, performing initial tests,... That is why the analyst is a key player. Tools we mostly use are Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect and Microsoft Visio.12/03/12 Brain Cell IT bvba 8

We have a flat organization, we aim for Quality mutual respect, trust, personal contact and personal coaching. We KNOW our collaborators. 12/03/12 Brain Cell IT bvba 9
