During October 2010, BoxTone conducted a series of three large scale webinars on “Securing & Managing iPad at the Point of Use.” The more than 1200 attendees represented wide cross-section of industries including 50 of Fortune 100 and wide cross-section of business & IT roles including 10% executives. Via an interactive polling feature, BoxTone gathered significant data on the rapid adoption trends ofiPad & other iOS devices in the enterprise.

More than 2/3 of the organizations were large in size (>1500 employees) indicating the importance of iPad in the large enterprise. Detailed analysis shows that 50% of the Fortune 100 and 30% of the Fortune 500 were represented, further stressing the importance of iPad in the largest enterprises.

The attendee roles were led by Architecture teams, then relatively balanced across Security, Support and non-IT roles, revealing the impact of iOS mobilization across the enterprise. The dominant Architecture role indicates the strategic nature of the iPad decision and the significant attendance of non-IT roles shows strong interest from line of business (LOB).

Further analysis of Titles and Roles shows very high degree of interest in the C-Suite and executive tiers, with 128 (or 11%) of attendees listing an executive-level title. This further indicates both the strategic nature of the iPad opportunity and the line of business drivers.

Impressively more than a quarter of all organizations expect to deploy iOS devices immediately and overall 2/3 of respondents (73%) expect to deploy within the next year, revealing substantial demand for and very rapid adoption of iPad in the enterprise.

Impressively a nearly forty percent of all organizations responding expect to grow iOS deployments by more than 20 percent rate & nearly a quarter expect to grow more than 30 percent rate, further reinforcing the rapid uptake and expansion of iPad in the enterprise.

Overall security & deployment were identified as the top management challenges, and the selection of ‘mobile application deployment & management’ as second most important indicates a focus on the iPad as an application delivery platform.
