  • 1. Top 10 Championship Moments In New York History By Steve Gibiser
  • 2. #10 Subway Series The New York Yankees opened up the Millennium by making history with their 26 th World Series and their 4 th in 5 years. The beat the cross-town Mets in 5 games. Derek Jeter was names MVP and winning just went with Jeter’s name as he won the Championship 4 out of his 5 MLB season’s. What a way to open up the Millennium.
  • 3. #9 Knicks '72-'73 Champs The NBA had their third New York - Los Angeles matchup in four years. Los Angeles edged out a win in Game One at home. After that, the team concept of New York took over to win the remaining four games. The Celtic’s were 68-14 in the regular season but were upset by the Knick in the Eastern Conference Finals.
  • 4. #8 1977 World Series The Yankees beat the Dodgers in 6 games in the World Series. In Game 6 when Jackson step to the plate their were chants of “Reggie Reggie”. Then he hit a 475 foot ball into the stands. They beat the Royals in the ACLS. They one their division by 2.5 games after winning 38 of their last 51 games.
  • 5. #7 '79-'84 The Islanders had one of the best dynasties of NHL history. It started in 1979 with there first Stanley Cup Championship. Four years later they made history as in 1984 they won there 4 th consecutive championship. It was a incredible run that lasted for almost half a decade.
  • 6. #6 "Wide Right" Superbowl XXV The Giants take on the Buffalo Bills in the 2 nd Super Bowl in Team History. Scott Norwood missed a last second field goal to send the “G-Men” in the history books as the become World Champs for the second time.
  • 7. #5 1998 World Champions The Second Championship in three years for the Yankees. A MLB record 125 regular season wins. They won the East by 22 games. The beat the Mariners in the ALDS, Rangers, in the ALCS, and the Padres in the Worlds Series.
  • 8. #4 Broadway Joe Super Bowl III The Jets knock off the Colts in a 16-7 win. Joe Namath throws for 206 yards to win MVP.
  • 9. #3 1996 World Series Champs The Yankees win the World Series for the first time since 1978. This is their 23 rd title in their rich history. They lost the first two games but then won four in a row to capture the title.
  • 10. #2 Super Bowl XLII New York Giants The New York Giants were barely a playoff team until week 17. They go toe-to-toe with the 16-0 Patriots in week 17. The go to the Divisional round and knock off the rival Cowboy’s with a last second stand. Then the coldest game in history win a OT games against Green Bay. Then with the Help of Tyree’s Catch on the helmet and Burress’s TD the Giants hand the Patriots their first lost and win there third Super Bowl.
  • 11. #1 1994 Stanley Cup Champions New York Rangers The New YORK Ranger Win their 4 th Stanley Cup, however it was their first in 54 years behind Captain Messier, Defenseman Leetch, and Goalie Richter. The get a miracle goal from Matteau in OT of Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals to send them into the Finals
