  2. 2. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration<br />Predicts an “active to extremely active” hurricane season<br />More than 11 storms are estimated to developed <br />
  3. 3. What is the cause?<br />Atmospheric changes:<br />No strong winds are likely to be around to weaken the storms<br />Temperature of the Atlantic Ocean will be about 4 degrees warmer than usual<br />
  4. 4. What action has been taken? <br />Local and state officials creating plans for shelters in south Texas<br />School district asking for additional funding to be able to purchase showers and generators <br />Governor held Hurricane Preparedness Conference in May <br />
  5. 5. Governor’s recommended plan…<br />Create a plan for your family<br />Have an emergency kit<br />Prepare to evacuate (house and vehicle)<br />Create evacuation routes <br />
  6. 6. Communication during the storm…<br />Phone services might go out, discuss secondary communication method<br />Research devices that do not depend on phone lines <br />Make an emergency contact list just in case you cannot access your contacts on your phone<br />
  7. 7. Emergency kit<br />Book bag ( to store everything in)<br />Non-perishable foods and water <br />Medical supplies (prescriptions and first aid kit)<br />Batteries<br />Flashlight<br />Radio<br />
  8. 8. Evacuation plan<br />Have a full tank of gas<br />Collect maps to be familiar with foreign roads in case of closures<br />Have an emergency kit in the car as well<br />Avoid carrying extra fuel<br />
  9. 9. What else?<br />Mother Nature has a plan in store for us and it has shown to be quite unpredictable<br />What we must do is prepare and stay up-to-date with the latest weather and news alerts <br />
