  • Hurricane Preparedness for Texas Residents
  • National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
    Predicts an “active to extremely active” hurricane season
    More than 11 storms are estimated to developed
  • What is the cause?
    Atmospheric changes:
    No strong winds are likely to be around to weaken the storms
    Temperature of the Atlantic Ocean will be about 4 degrees warmer than usual
  • What action has been taken?
    Local and state officials creating plans for shelters in south Texas
    School district asking for additional funding to be able to purchase showers and generators
    Governor held Hurricane Preparedness Conference in May
  • Governor’s recommended plan…
    Create a plan for your family
    Have an emergency kit
    Prepare to evacuate (house and vehicle)
    Create evacuation routes
  • Communication during the storm…
    Phone services might go out, discuss secondary communication method
    Research devices that do not depend on phone lines
    Make an emergency contact list just in case you cannot access your contacts on your phone
  • Emergency kit
    Book bag ( to store everything in)
    Non-perishable foods and water
    Medical supplies (prescriptions and first aid kit)
    Batteries
    Flashlight
    Radio
  • Evacuation plan
    Have a full tank of gas
    Collect maps to be familiar with foreign roads in case of closures
    Have an emergency kit in the car as well
    Avoid carrying extra fuel
  • What else?
    Mother Nature has a plan in store for us and it has shown to be quite unpredictable
    What we must do is prepare and stay up-to-date with the latest weather and news alerts
