TheTraining Scale• Is the most important guideline for trainers, riders, course designers, judges and a constant source of reference.

Important!• We can use the training scale for the training of young horses and more advanced horses up to Grand Prix.

It is a program of systematic physical education of a horse.A “gymnastic program” to develop the horse’s natural physical and mental skills.

Training scale It is separated into three big parts: Collection3. Development of carrying powerincluding impulsion, straightnessand collection Straightness2. Development of pushing power, Impulsionincluding suppleness, contact and Throughnessacceptance of the bit, impulsionand straightness. Contact Result is a horse that is fully responsive and through1. A exercise, can not be considered asgood if the horse has lost therhythm and looseness

1) The rhythm (Tact)• is the regularity of movement in walking, trot and gallop in space and time• Regularity in all 3 gaits is the first step of the young horse’s training

2) Looseness – Relaxation “Losgelassenheit”When the horse work through his back and the muscles is “free of tension”.• The horse must be able to contract and relax his muscles in a non forceful and cramping manner.

3) Contact– connection on the bit “Anlehnung”Is a constant, soft and steady connection between the hands of the rider and the mouth of the horse.• The horse seeks “looks after” the contact and the rider provides it.• A correct steady, comfortable contact allows the horse to find its balance and rhythm in all the gaits – lengthen forward downward frame.

4) Impulsion “Schwung”- is the energy, which the hind legs produce, passing through the back of the horse and to the riders hand.• Development of the forward propulsive strength – desire of the horse to go forward with actively pushing hind legs.

Straightness “Rectitude” “Geraderichtung”When is a horse considered straight?• When the hind quarters follow in the same tracks as the forelegs on a straight line or a bended line)• When the horse accept the riders aids, equal on both sidesIs a precondition for collection.

Basic philosophy! It is not your course linewhich is difficult for horsesand riders – it is where you place your obstacles on your course line !

The difference between a small and a big arena!It is important that the caracter of indoor andoutdoor (small/big) is not the same. Indoor, because the arena is smaller, the obstacles is “coming faster”and you can use less number of strides like 3 strides (not for younghorses). In a big arena, like 60 x 120 m or more, it is important to use the holearea and alowe the horses to galopp.You will use more 6, 7, 8 and 9 strides distances.The course must test the condition and galopping ability of the horse.You can of course use a distance with 5 strides but only in special causes

Jumping Courses are Tests of:• The level of education and training of the horse and rider.• The degree of communication and cooperation between horse and rider.• The riders’ judgment and concentration.• The horses skill,galloping performance, boldness, carefulness, , balance, and concentration.
