Jacques Brel was our hero when we were young: I saw him live a few times before he became famous: he used to sing, accompanied by his guitar and an accordeon or piano. I am a French speaking Belgian, so he was the best for us, the only great Belgian singer/composer. I loved his song on Bruxelles too.
Un vrai géant de la chanson. Merci beaucoup d´avoir publié ces excellentes pages.

LE PLAT PAYS - THE FLAT COUNTRY - Presentation Transcript

  1. LE PLAT PAYS SONG BY JACQUES BREL, PHOTOS FROM THE INTERNET, PAINTINGS FROM MONDRIAN MARIEKE THE FLAT COUNTRY
  2. Brel's native Belgium is a land of two languages, French and Flemish Dutch. This unusual song goes back and forth between the two languages. as he laments his lost love, on his way from Bruges ( West Flanders) to Ghent (East Flanders). Marieke is a fine example of Brel's use of crescendo,a building of emotion, force and passion to an explosive ending.
