    • 1. definition of plumbing terms Saydee Bennett
    • 2. plumbing The system of pipes, tanks, fittings, and other apparatus required for the water supply, heating, and sanitation in a building.
    • 3. pipe A tube of metal, plastic, or other material used to convey water, gas, oil, or other fluid substance.
    • 4. fitting A small part on or attached to a piece of furniture or equipment.
    • 5. tubing A length or lengths of metal, plastic, glass, ect., in tubular form.
    • 6. bench yoke vice A holding device attached to a work bench; has two jaws to hold workpiece firmly in place
    • 7. Chain vice A clamping device.
    • 8. chain wrench a pipe wrench used for turning large pipes; an adjustable chain circles the pipe with its ends connected to the head whose teeth engage the pipe
    • 9. tubing cutter Hand tool for cutting pipe or tubing; one end of the tool, which partially encircles the pipe, carries one or more sharp wheels; the cutting edge of the wheels is forced against the pipe by a screw on the other end of the tool; cutting is effected by rotating the tool around the pipe.
    • 10. ratchet die stock Ratchet pipe thread cutting tool
    • 11. flaring tool Tool used to create a cone-shaped enlargement at the end of a piece of tubing to accept a flare fitting.
    • 12. flaring block A block that holds things when your flaring them.
    • 13. pipe stand standpipe tank or pipe for holding water in an elevated position to create pressure in a water supply system.
    • 14. inside diameter (id) Gears have a wide range of unique terminology known as gear nomenclature. Many of the terms defined cite the same reference work.
    • 15. outside diameter (od) Gears have a wide range of unique terminology known as gear nomenclature. Many of the terms defined cite the same reference work
    • 16. black pipe Steel pipe in which the Outer Diameter has been Lacquered (as opposed to bare or galvanized pipe).
    • 17. galvanized pipe A pipe is round tubular section or hollow cylinder used mainly to convey media. It can also be used for structural applications.Iron pipe with a zinc coating. Formerly used for water lines.
    • 18. standard pipe Used for low pressure conveyance of air, steam, gas, water, oil or other fluids and for mechanical applications
    • 19. extra heavy pipe a thick metal pipe
    • 20. double extra heavy pipe ????????????? I cant find it...
    • 21. compression fitting Compression fittings are used in plumbing and electrical conduit systems to join two tubes or thin-walled pipes together. ...
    • 22. polyethylene (pe) a lightweight thermoplastic; used especially in packaging and insulation
    • 23. polyvinyl choride (pvc) A type of white plastic pipe sometimes used for water supply lines
    • 24. acrylonitrite- butadiene-styrene (abs) any of a class of composite plastics used to make car bodies and cases for computers and other appliances
    • 25. bushings A bushing is a type of bearing. It is a cylindrical lining designed to reduce friction and wear inside a hole, or constrict and restrain motion of ...
    • 26. reducers pipefitting that joins two pipes of different diameter
    • 27. elbow(ell) Fittings are used in pipe and plumbing systems to connect straight pipe or tubing sections, to adapt to different sizes or shapes, and to regulate ...
    • 28. tee A plumbing fitting in the shape of the letter "T," used to connect three sections of pipe.
    • 29. y I cant find it..
    • 30. coupling a connection (like a clamp or vise) between two things so they move together
    • 31. union I cant find it.....
    • 32. pipe dope Pipe dope is slang for anaerobic chemical sealant that is used to make a pipe thread joint leak proof and pressure tight
    • 33. teflon tape Thread seal tape -- commonly known as "Teflon tape", "PTFE tape", "tape dope", or "plumber's tape" -- is a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) film cut
    • 34. faucet a regulator for controlling the flow of a liquid from a reservoir
    • 35. valve control consisting of a mechanical device for controlling the flow of a fluid
    • 36. o-ring An O-ring, also known as a packing, or a toric joint, is a mechanical gasket in the shape of a torus; it is a loop of elastomer with a disc- shaped .a gasket consisting of a flat ring of rubber or plastic; used to seal a joint against high pressure
