    2. Golds Gym can HELP you lower health care costs, reduce absenteeism and Introduction disability time, lower workers compensation rates, improve productivity, and improve the overall physical and mental health of your employees. Best of all, there is no cost to Today's Corporate Wellness Programs look very different than the health and your organization to enroll in HELP – our Healthy Employee Lifestyle Program. fitness initiatives of the past. The best programs are aggressive and focused on screening, prevention and measurable results. The best programs are customized to address the needs of myriad unique employee populations. The best programs also launch educational initiatives that encourage personal responsibility and healthy decision- making. And most importantly the best wellness programs involve all members of the workforce. What makes a corporate wellness program successful? One thing we know for sure is cheap memberships don’t work. We know, because we offered that for several years: “Join now because it’s cheap and just go have at it.” We found that by simply offering a cheap membership the number of employees that joined the gym was minimal. The number of those that actually used the gym was even less. In fact, a Harris Poll conducted by the Wall Street Journal found that only 5% of employees participate in a wellness program that addresses only exercise. The cheap gym membership is a great perk for the employees that already practice a healthy lifestyle. However, these aren’t the employees that are responsible for the rising health care costs, absenteeism, employee turnover, workers comp claims, and other problems associated with obesity and unhealthy lifestyles. In fact, 10% of employees consume 80% of the health-care costs at most companies. They are the ones at the highest risk for common medical conditions such as diabetes, high cholesterol, and heart disease, back pain, and are the least likely to change unhealthy behaviors. “In order for a wellness program to be successful and have significant financial impact, it has to be robust enough to engage that 10%” says David Hunnicutt of the Wellness Councils of America. The primary goal of any wellness program should be to return the highest-risk people to low-risk status while helping the other 90% maintain a low-health-risk lifestyle, he says. That is why Golds Gym developed HELP (Healthy Employee Lifestyle Program). HELP can benefit all of your employees, whether or not they choose to join our health club. HELP provides all of your employees with tools and resources to understand and improve their “Physical Wealth.” Physical Wealth affects an individual’s entire life: their health, vitality, energy, self-confidence, productivity, self-esteem. The Physical Wealth of individuals affects the bottom-line wealth of the companies they work for.
    3. Going to the gym is great. We wish everyone did it. But we know that a large A Successful Wellness Program segment of your employee population has no desire to walk into a health club – maybe never will. However, successful Corporate Wellness Programs are not just about exercising – although exercise is important. The most successful programs were designed to involve all employees and move them adopt a healthier lifestyle. These programs have components that can address the needs of the non-exerciser as well as those that are involved, or desire to become involved, in fitness. Great wellness programs have many of the following items in common:  For all employees:  Nutrition Programs  Health, Fitness and Nutrition Information Resources  Health Screening  Kids Programs  For those that are involved in or desire to get involved in a regular exercise program:  Individualized Fitness Programs  Cable Circuit Training  Group Exercise Programs  Childcare Programs for All Employees You Are What Your Employees Eat. What are you doing to help them eat Nutrition Programs better? When you take into account reduced productivity, increased absenteeism, and increased healthcare costs due to preventable illness, the cost per year of poor employee nutrition averages out to about $1,474 per employee. The foods that your employees eat act as the fuel that powers your company. Poor eating habits will severely affect your bottom line. For example, the above referenced study by the North Carolina Institute for Public Health determined that poor employee nutrition was costing businesses in North Carolina a total of about 4.9 billion dollars each year. Golds Gym provides effective nutrition solutions that include complete balanced nutrition. The difference in our services lies in our overall focus. Unfortunately, most
    4. programs focus primarily on weight loss, not the health and productivity of your employees. Many fad diets use methods that completely ignore basic health and nutrition principles. These shortcomings can result in loss of productivity or worse. Our approaches focus on the total health and wellbeing of your employees. We base our programs on sound nutritional standards developed by thousands of the world's top researchers. These standards are compiled and published by the Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies of Science. These standards clearly define levels of nutrients that should be consumed for a range of individuals at various stages of life. Our systems work with your employees to help them design meal plans that match these standards using foods that they like to eat. The programs we have available are:  Golds Gym Online Nutrition Program  Take Shape for Life Weight Loss Program  Golds Gym Kids Online Weight Loss Program This easy to learn nutrition program is available to all HELP employees and their Golds Gym Online Nutrition Program families – not just Golds Gym members. Here's How It Works: Your employees enter the foods that they eat into our online system. Our system then points out problems in their diet, and teaches them how to improve by removing, or adding foods. For example, if they are eating too much cholesterol, or saturated fat, it will show them which foods are causing the problems so that they can remove them from their diet. If they are missing certain vitamins or minerals, it will help them balance their meal plans by suggesting foods to add to their diet. Our system works with them from day to day, actively helping them to plan and track their nutrition so that they can feel, look, and perform better. Our system is significantly better than other online programs for several reasons. Research has shown that individuals that actively journal and plan their meals achieve better results than those that simply follow a published plan. Our system helps your employees to build balanced meal plans using foods that they like to eat. Another reason that many nutrition programs fail is that they force your employees to radically change their eating habits. Our online system works like their own private nutritionist, actively planning balanced meals using foods that they like to eat. To get free one year codes your employees can simply email us at nutrition@goldsmiddletown.com or click here and we will send them the number of codes they request. Click here for more information Click here for an online demo of Golds Gym Online Nutrition Program First of all, let me tell you a few statistics that explain why it may be difficult to Take Shape for Life motivate your employees to get involved with certain wellness initiatives. You see, 67% of Americans are overweight and 96% of the overweight population isn’t going to health
    5. clubs. The average American has tried 10-15 diets in the last three years, there is more information out there about healthy living than ever before and yet America is heavier than ever. We recently became a Take Shape For Life (TSFL) Independent Health Care Advisor. We have tried several nutrition programs over the past 13 years. Every program was a good program that yielded poor results. We finally realized that a successful nutrition program was not only effective, but also easy to comply with. That’s why we chose to go with the Take Shape For Life Program. Medically Proven Weight Management - Recommended by over 15,000 doctors • Safe, effective & time-tested (25 yrs.) Clinically proven (Johns Hopkins University & NIH) using medical • protocols • Easy to follow -clients can safely lose 2-5 pounds per week with no hunger No program fees • Clients eat 6 times/day and lose up to 20 pounds in their 1st month with • great tasting foods like bars, soups, oatmeal, shakes, and more • TSFL offers employees several different levels of support, and the TSFL Corporate Wellness Program works to partner each employee with a specifically tailored personal program that best meets their needs. TSFL provides employees with access to an experienced Health Coach, access to the TSFL network of medical practitioners, online support and access to nutritionists. All of this support is absolutely free to employer and employee. The only cost to the employee is the cost of Medifast food which is less than the average daily cost of their current food choices. During this year’s ‘State of Our Health’ conference in Columbia, S.C Former Golds Gym Kids Online Weight Loss Program Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee announced: “The sad fact is for the first time since 1776 and the 232 years of this nation's history, a child born in America today, because of the impact of obesity and childhood-related chronic diseases, is the first kid in the history of this nation who is not expected to have a life span equal to or greater than that of his parents or grandparents. Never He’s right. This is the first generation of kids who may not live as long as their happened before.” parents. Studies show that for the first time in history, the average life span of the newest generation is expected to decrease. What is happening to our children? Whether you watch the nightly news, read the paper, or check the daily headlines on your favorite website, you've likely heard of the Childhood Obesity Epidemic. This is a very real problem affecting more and more kids every day.
    6. Childhood obesity rates have nearly tripled among children ages 2 to 5 and almost quadrupled among those 6 to 11, according to the National Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Medicine. With health care costs increasing and childhood diseases becoming more prevalent, an increasing number of employers are including children in their wellness initiatives. \"Employers that just focus their wellness programs on their employees are missing the boat,\" says Hewitt Associates principal Tim Stentiford, who refers to plan participants’ dependents as \"the forgotten majority.\" On average, 20 percent to 25 percent of large employers’ total health care spending is on employees’ children, Hewitt reports. And this number may rise if childhood obesity continues to become more prevalent, experts say. Experts also think that employees may be more likely to act on behalf of the health of their children than they would be to do something on behalf of their own health, Stentiford says. \"If employers are looking to get people’s attention, focusing on children’s health issues is a way of getting people to act,\" he says. Every parent in your organization will have access to our Golds Gym Kids Online Weight Loss Program. We created this program to give kids, parents, and families a helpful source of information about healthy eating, fun ideas to promote physical activity, and practical tips for smooth family functioning. We want to address and provide alternatives for the risky behaviors associated with Childhood Obesity, so that every child has a chance at a long and happy life. 8. If asked about the role of a chiropractor in industry, you would probably answer Chiropractic Assessment & Treatment that they treat injuries sustained on the job. However, chiropractors do much more than just treat back pain. Chiropractors focus on structure, warning signs and causes. The chiropractor focus in industry is on prevention. All HELP gym members will be given a personalized program that includes:  One 1-hour Personal Training Session  Two ½-hour Personal Training Sessions  Monthly follow-ups throughout the membership We have to best and most professional Personal Training staff in the area. Our Personal Training Sessions trainers have years of experience designing programs for all levels of exercisers. Golds Gym trainers are certified by nationally recognized organizations. Why are assessments essential? The benefits of qualitative and quantitative Health & Fitness Assessments fitness testing are both educational and motivational. Properly conducted fitness assessments enable Personal Trainers to design more appropriate training programs, encourage participants to perform regular physical activity and provide objective reinforcement for your exercise efforts. Fitness assessments provide an objective way to measure physical improvements in exercisers. Specific categories include body composition, resting heart rate, resting blood pressure, muscular strength, joint flexibility and cardiovascular endurance. Why Body Composition and not just the scale? Bodyweight and body mass index (BMI) measurements are referred to as imprecise because they do not indicate what was lost or gained from a body composition perspective. For example, a client who reduced her scale weight by 6 pounds could have lost 3 pounds of fat and 3 pounds of muscle (undesirable), or she could have lost 9 pounds of fat and added 3 pounds of muscle (desirable). Golds Gym performs body composition assessments to educate a largely
    11. uninformed public on the importance of maintaining or gaining muscle during any weight-loss initiative. When people understand the essential role of muscle in metabolism and chronic disease prevention they appreciate regular assessments of body composition. We use the Bodymetrix BX2000 Ultrasound Body Composition Analyzer. It’s fast and it’s accurate. The trainer only needs to gently touch the skin for 2 seconds for an accurate reading of tissue thickness. The BX2000 is also much less invasive that skin calipers. It eliminates the embarrassing, uncomfortable grabbing and pinching of fat. Check out this Bodymetrix Video Why are goals essential? Setting goals is essential to obtain optimum health and Goal Setting - No Goals Left Behind - reach fitness objectives. In today’s fast paced society our personal time is at a premium. Far too often health and well-being comes second to work, school and family. The biggest challenge for many is making time for physical activity. Therefore, the time spent in the gym is too valuable to waste. Golds Gym’s Personal Trainers help you formulate an action plan for focusing efforts. Setting goals might be the most important exercise a member performs in Golds Gym. We help members set goals that are well planned, prioritized, realistic and written (“A goal is only a wish until it is written down”). Personalized goals are much more motivational than goals set by others. Members set goals that are relevant to themselves and our fitness experts help set the parameters. The initial session allows members to choose one of the three following primary program categories that would best fit your goals:  Fat Loss  Health and fitness  Sports & Performance After reviewing the assessments and goals, the Personal Trainer helps plan out Gym Floor Introduction with the Personal Trainer the next steps. Based on these assessment results and goals, the Personal Trainer will design an appropriate exercise program including cardiovascular training, strength training, flexibility, and stretching. Then the trainer will take the member through the first workout. After the first Personal Training Session the trainer will schedule two 1/2-hour Follow-Up Sessions follow-up sessions. In the follow up sessions the trainer will check progress and design a slightly more advanced exercise program. Every 30 days the trainer will contact the member to schedule a session to assess the progress that has be achieved. These follow- up sessions will continue throughout the membership. These reassessments and follow- up personal training sessions are critical in ensuring continued success for your employees.
    12. Your employees will be able to schedule as many follow-up assessments as they Follow-Up Assessments want. We will also do health screenings for their family members. Conditions checked include blood pressure, resting heart rate, weight, and body composition. The tests can be done as often as they desire. Circuit training is defined as moving quickly from one exercise apparatus to Circuit Training another and completing a prescribed number of exercises or time on each apparatus. Circuit training keeps the pulse high and promotes overall fitness by working all muscle groups as well as the heart and lungs. The rise in popularity of circuit training is primarily because it is a one-stop exercise session, giving the exerciser a total body workout. People like the convenience factor of getting a great strength training workout while also gaining cardiovascular fitness in a short amount of time. Most gyms now offer 30 minute circuit classes on traditional exercise machines. Although these circuits have been around since the 1950’s they didn’t become popular until the recent rise of Curves Gyms. The “Curves Circuit” has been copied by thousands of gym across the country. The problem with the typical “Curves Circuit” is they never change. They use traditional fixed-form strength training machines that only allow for one exercise. People get bored doing the same exact program every time they come to the gym. Also, the human body tends to adapt the same exercises. This means after a while there is no change in the exerciser’s body and they stop seeing any results. Another problem with the machines used in these circuits is they are designed to fit the body of the “typical exerciser”. This means those exercisers that are tall, short, wide, thin, or anything other than “typical” won’t quite fit these machines properly. (Please don’t look at this as a knock on Curves. Curves Gyms have encouraged thousands of women across the country to start exercising. Many of these women would never have joined a typical co-ed gym. Golds Gym has a great deal of respect for Curves. We feel they have been a tremendous asset to our industry. In fact, Golds Gym and Curves are the only Most traditional fixed-form gym equipment was designed in the old two gyms that the AARP recommends.) “bodybuilding days”. Nowadays, there are very few “bodybuilders” left. Most Golds Gym members exercise to look better, feel better and get healthier. Current exercise prescriptions at many gyms are designed to work the “lats”, “bis”, “tris”, “hams”, “glutes” and a whole bunch of other muscles most people don’t know about and really don’t care about. We prefer to use terms such as pushing, pulling and locomotion. These three terms are easy to remember and understand. Golds Gym’s Personal Training is based on a “functional training” approach. We design programs that exercise the body in ways that it was designed to move. Cable machines are the best way to train the body in a functional way. We have the largest variety of cable machines in the area.
    13. Our current circuit classes are conducted on FreeMotion cable machines. Several Benefits of cable training years ago the FreeMotion Company revolutionized the health club industry with the introduction of free-form cable exercise equipment. A recent study published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research demonstrated that free-form exercise equipment has advantages over fixed-form devices for the development of strength, balance and the reduction of pain. Results of the study showed incredible gains and benefits in the cable training group. Cable users had a 58% greater increase in strength over the fixed-form group. Their improvements in balance were 196% higher over the fixed group and they reported an overall decrease in joint pain by 30%. Last year we introduced a second cable circuit - HumanSport. The HumanSport line consists of six stations designed to reflect human body mechanics. It is the newest and most advanced cable circuit system in the world. HumanSport is so simple, so intuitive and so natural that it feels as if it were custom-built for each and every user. One of the principal advantages of cable training versus other forms of resistance equipment is that cables make it simple to simulate real-life movements. Cables allow twisting and bending movements. This results in a more functional workout that limits the risk of injury and is more useful for day-to-day activities. This is much preferred to repetitive movements on traditional machines that can lead to injury. Also, because a greater number of muscles are engaged, more energy is used, and the metabolic rate increases. Cable training provides a more interesting workout. The freedom of movement allows users to accomplish different exercises on one machine. Cable equipment is so versatile, and can accomplish a range of tasks and exercises at different levels. The variety and diversity it can add to a member's workout also appeals to Personal Trainers, and allows them the opportunity to be creative and set up interactive and fun exercise routines. Variety is psychologically positive. If a member has different options for exercise as opposed to just traditional machines, he or she will stay refreshed and motivated for exercise. Cable machines might seem complicated to operate due to the freedom to move in different directions and at different angles. However, since every new member is introduced to the cable circuit by a Personal Trainer this is never a problem at Golds Gym. Follow-up sessions allow the Personal Trainer to introduce more advanced exercises that lead to better results. The need for childcare in a health club is obvious. Many of your employees that Childcare have young children need someone to watch them while they exercise. Our Kids Zone is
    14. open every day. Morning hours are 8:30 to 1:00 and evenings 4:00 to 8:00. The cost to the parent is only a dollar a day per child. The children can stay for up to two hours. A large part of exercise is the social side of it. Many studies have shown the Golds Gym Group Exercise (GGX) adherence of members who participate in group exercise classes is greater than individuals who train on their own. GGX participants enjoy great camaraderie in a social atmosphere. Often people in group exercise classes forget they are working out because they are having so much fun. New members or fitness beginners find GGX to be non- intimidating. Besides having fun, those that partake of GGX learn how to exercise properly, safely and effectively. They achieve real fitness results. They also experience a variety of workouts with so many different classes to choose from. All of our classes (except Group Cycle) are free to members. Members can take as many classes as they want. We have just added the world’s most popular group exercise class – BODYPUMP. We also offer Zumba, Yoga, Pilate, Kickboxing, Latin Dance, Group Cycle, Step and many other exiting classes. To check out our Golds Gym Group Exercise (GGX) Blog go to: http://www.goldsmiddletown.com/ggx Golds Gym is the largest co-ed gym chain in the world. Every member of Golds Travel Pass Privileges at 650 Golds Gym Gym Middletown will have access to all of the 650 Golds Gyms located around the world. This is a great perk for any of your employees that do a lot of business travel. The Golds Gym Locations can be found at: www.goldsgym.com We encourage our members to bring their children to the gym on weekends and Free Kids Weekend Workouts holidays between noon and 5:00pm. These are typically low usage hours so the kids won’t be intimidated by a bunch of adults. They have also use of our Group Exercise room and all of our equipment. Both the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and American College of Sports (ACSM) recommend strength training for children as young as six years old. In general, if a child is old enough to participate in organized sports, he or she is ready for a strength training program. Research has shown strength training helps children maintain a healthy body weight, benefits skeletal and joint development as well as improves sports performance. We will be adding the HumanSport circuit this October. One of the great benefits the HumanSport circuit offers is that is fits all body types – including kids. The cable based circuit training workout accounts for the biomechanics of a child. This helps to
    15. prevent injury by making sure that the child achieves the unrestricted joint movement and core activating benefits of functional training.
