  • What is your focus? In other words, what are you trying to offer your audience? For articles, are you offering commentary on an industry trend, explaining a best practice, offering a set of educational tips, etc.?) Be sure you only have one focus! What is your angle? Simply stated, why is this worth writing? Why will your customers find this important? Make sure you connect your product, service, news, etc. with your audience. Who is your audience? What type of customers or target audiences do you want to reach? What are a few important points? List any pertinent facts, statistics, or history that support your angle. Articles may cover more points, but the points must be concise and related only to your main focus. Provide background information. Summarize the pertinent information regarding your company in two to three sentences. Whenever possible, tie this information to your focus. However, even if it is not be directly related to your content, knowing your company’s history and background well help the audience understand how you are qualified to speak on the topic. This will help add credibility. What is the call to action? What is the logical next step that you want the reader to take? Offer a content up-sell (i.e., if they like your article, let them know about a whitepaper on the same subject). Promote related educational resources, as well as products or services (as long as you’re not too salesy).
