This is the XXL magazine is an American hip-
hop magazine published by Townsquare
media.
At first glance, the magazine portrays a hip
hop artiste which goes by the name of ‘The
game’ which is a well known hip hop rapper
that will straight away appeal to fans of his
music.
In addition, the image the game has a very
serious and intimidating face and holds his
hands up wrapped with a bandana which
tells the viewers that he is a rebel or a
mischievous person, it can also relate to
slavery or even the fact that he’s hands are
tied together means that if he is unleashed
he can cause mayhem which links to where it
say “TROUBLESOME”. The game is also seen
wearing a silver encrusted watch and a
slightly visible chain around his neck which
generally represents the hip hop world where it is seen to be a multi millionaire
industries and most of the timers rappers mention it in their sings and talk about the
essence and importance it has on their lives, which will appeal to people who want or
are enticed by the riches these rappers have.
Moreover, another key feature to look at on the front cover that may appeal to readers
of interest is the cover lines and additional cover lines. On the left hand side of the page
shows headings of other well known hip hop artistes such as T.I., The P$C, Jim Jones and
David Banner. Under TI’s name it says “the kings and his royal court” which suggest that
the magazine talks about the most successful and best rappers in the industry. This
gives the audience and people who like rap a teaser of what to expect in the magazine in
relation to the ‘kings of rap’ as you might say.
The additional cover line again mentions several artistes in the hip hop world such as
the rap group G-unit, Young Jeezy, plus Jermaine Dupri and Bow wow. This is another
way to attract readers because it gives off many likable artistes in the hip hop world
which will appeal to readers who want to know more information about them.

of the publication. The contents page is meant to give readers information to the
readers.
In this contents page it provides a list of articles and various different stories that are
featured in the magazine which will appeal to the target audience.
In this magazine, the contents page for GQ magazine has various headings in different
colours such as detail, features, dresser and talk which is structured out well which
makes it simple for readers to navigate around the magazine. In the features column, it
talks about different topics such as ‘Boko-Haram’ which will appeal to readers are
interested in current affairs, another example the dresser column which has chapters on
grooming which will target people who take care in their appearance such as women.
Directly underneath the contents page title is a mini image of the magazine cover which
has ‘Michael Fassbender’ and it tells viewers that there is an interview on him which is
known as the star interview. This will be targeted at readers who appeal to movies
especially movies he is associated with.

the crystal ball of pop. It is an avant-garde magazine which tells us that the audience
and readers of this magazine will have a very arty background, and are aficionados of
high art as well as pop, culture and politics.
This magazine article is an interview with Madonna, which talks mainly about her
personal life and her philanthropy works. This sort of magazine article will be targeted
to readers that like knowing more about celebrities that feel by reading articles like this
is will create a connection between them and the celebrity.
On the left hand side of the article we can see a big close up image of Madonna’s face;
her eyes are closed and she is biting into a piece of costume which looks very seductive.
This big close up image that the magazine put up conveys the message that the
magazine article is right in your face and wants to make the readers feel that they are
getting more personal insight of Madonna.
