  • As a Netflix member, it’s easy to look at our UI across all of our devices and focus on the core discovery and playback experience. This has been finely tuned in many of our apps across many platforms.

  • As we starting expanding into the Netherlands last year, we wanted to do some A/B testing and experimentation with different payment methods. However, we had two separate web site stacks. One for phones/tablets, one for everything else. We decided to use responsive design to consolidate this signup flow into a single, responsive UI. • However, we also put a lot of energy towards acquiring new members. We have gone from roughly 23 million members to 44 million members in just two years, and are now available in more than 41 countries.
  • What we ended up with was a single codebase that allows us to test and measure new ideas across all browser-based signups.
  • This was so successful, that we also embedded it into our Android app, so that you can signup without ever leaving the app.
  • Netlfix is available on a wide range of devices and platforms. We manage this complexity by classifying out Uis into three distinct classes.TODO: replace image with better collage of devices
  • 10ft experiences included Smart TVs, connected BluRay players, game consoles, as well as set-top boxes like Roku and Apple TV
  • Phone and tablet covers our iOS and Android apps
  • Website is for browser-based access from a wide range of devices.
  • These distinct apps and user experiences can be used independently, but also in concert with each other. You see complimentary usage with phone and tablet devices being used to control a TV. You can also time-shift your viewing from one device to the other, as you pause on your TV, but resume on your tablet.
