STORYSkip Beat! follows the story of KyokoMogami, a sixteen year-old girl wholoves her childhood friend, ShotaroFuwa, but is betrayed by him. Havingspent a large part of her childhood atShotaros parents inn, she learned agreat deal about hostelry and other suchjobs. Shotaro, not wishing to take overhis parents business, moves to Tokyo topursue a career in music. Sho, as he iscalled by his fans, asks Kyoko to leavehigh school and her life in KyotoPrefecture behind to help him.
Upon arrival in Tokyo, Kyoko livesan unreasonably frugal life andworks multiple jobs to supportSho, spending nothing on herselfand doing whatever she can forSho, who eventually becomesranked seventh of the top twentymost popular male celebrities ofJapan. One day, she overhearsShotaro complaining about her tohis manager, saying that she is aboring and plain girl.
He proceeds to sweet-talk and flirt with hismanager, in stark contrast to the cold anddemanding attitude he usually exhibits towardsKyoko. Kyoko doesnt shed many tears when shelearns that Sho wanted her along only to handlehousekeeping duties. Instead, her "Pandoras box"opens and she vows vengeance on Sho. As she iscarried away by security, Sho mockingly tells herthat if she wants revenge, she had better become abigger star than he is. And so, Kyoko changes herappearance and enters the entertainmentindustry, facing many challenges along the way.
Skip Beat! follows Kyokos journey to climbthe showbiz ladder as she meets interestingpeople, troublemakers and friendsalike, with hopes of getting revenge onShotaro, as well as regaining the sense ofcompassion that she had lost when herheart was broken by him. Along the wayshe meets Tsuruga Ren, who at first hatesKyoko but later comes to love her.
