A BlueBox Overview on Software as a Service (SaaS) - Presentation Transcript

    1. The BlueBox The BlueBox Software as a Service (SaaS)‏
    2. SaaS Defined
    3. SaaS Defined
      • Software as a Service (SaaS, typically pronounced 'sass') is a model of software deployment whereby a provider licenses an application to customers for use as a service on demand. (Wikipedia)‏. It’s a “multi-tenant” architecture model meaning many organisations share the hardware at the datacenter.
      • Simpler definition = A software delivery model in which a software firm provides daily technical operation, maintenance, and support for the software provided to their client.
    4. Why the SaaS Phenomenon?
      • SaaS is part of a wider move towards Internet-based automated services. (The megatrend that powers SaaS is the same one driving Web 2.0, SOA and every other expression of today’s increasingly Web-connected world.)‏
      • Gartner says that the yearly cost of purchasing and managing software applications can be four times the initial purchase cost.
      • Gartner found companies spend more than 75 percent of the total allocation IT budget on maintaining software and systems.
      • SaaS deployment does not require an organisation to invest in any hardware and can run over any reasonably fast and reliable broadband infrastructure.
      • The vendor is completely accountable if there are issues with application delivery and therefore has an interest in ensuring that their products are reliable and easy to use.
    5. Why the SaaS Phenomenon? Cont. ...
      • Higher return on assets (ROA): Optimization of sourcing strategy resulting in cost savings. In other words, I already have a capability (e.g. CRM) in house, but now I can source it more cheaply from the cloud.
      • Shorter time to value: Opportunity to leverage software assets faster by shunting the deployment phase.
      • Higher agility: Opportunity to leverage software that was not possible for me to leverage before due to lack of specific skill sets in house, internal policies or in house regulatory compliance etc. In other words, SaaS offers me the opportunity to tap into a capability I was not able to have before. This results in the opportunity to tap into a larger software asset pool enabling better business – IT alignment.
