Date of Event: Friday 4thOctober as a National Day, which is also coincidentally World Smile Day.
The Purpose: To get New Zealander's to say Hello to 5 people they don't currently know on the day.
The initiative is being put together because many people no longer make the effort to say Hello to the person next to them anymore, maybe in the elevator or in the coffee queue, and would rather hide behind their smartphone or be plugged into something else than make eye contact.
Saying hello or a simple acknowledgment is just good manners. Imagine the opportunities that could be being missed on either a personal basis or business, because of the lack of effort that is being put into saying Hello to someone new.
Some big New Zealand brands are helping to spread the word and get New Zealand saying Hello to 5 people they don't currently know on the day. But why limit yourself to just one day, why not carry it on everyday and see what happens?
Einstein said, "I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots"
So on Friday 4th October 2013, start with Hello when you come into contact with someone you don't yet know, they could possibly change your life. In the mean time, if you would like to get involved, contact firstname.lastname@example.org or keep in touch with the event at The Say Hello Project Facebook page.
