About 100 words or so is enough • Be memorable: Use the same description and pic all over the place in your online profiles • Include a link to your website and mention the opt-in offer. If you do not have an opt-in, include 1-2 social links
  • 2. FIND BLOGS TO GUEST POST ON • Look at blogs that are inline with your values and beliefs • Look at complementary blogs, friends who are blogging, other bloggers • Don’t avoid guest posting on blogs with the exact niche • If you need more ideas, use the worksheet
  • 3. BRAINSTORM GUEST POST IDEAS • What are their readers interested in? What do they like or dislike? What do they buy or use? • What problems and challenges do their readers struggle with? • What types of posts get lots of shares? • What types of posts get lots of comments?
  • 4. PITCH TO THE HOST BLOG • Write the email. If you need ideas, see the worksheet and reuse/modify • Propose a couple of titles and the main points. If you need headline ideas, see the worksheet • Show flexibility to write a different post, if the host blogger suggests • Follow up if you do not get an answer
  • 5. WRITE THE GUEST POST • Write your best possible post • Edit and proofread a few times • Use nice formatting and white space • Decide with the host blog what types of files to send • Include at least one image • Include the short bio and profile pic • Be flexible to incorporate feedback from the host blogger
  • 6. BE THE ROCKSTAR! • Promote the post: Write a post on your own blog with a brief intro and add the link to your guest post, asking people to read and comment there • Promote the post: Share a link in your email newsletter and invite people to subscribe to the host blog • Promote the post: Share on Facebook (your fan page, personal profile, and FB groups that allow sharing) • Promote the post: Share on Twitter a few times for a couple days and over the following week • Promote the post: Pin on Pinterest on all appropriate boards • Promote the post: Share on Google+, LinkedIn, StumbleUpon, etc. • Engage in the discussion at the host blog. Ask a few blogger friends to comment. Answer to all comments
