      pp. 247-251, 265-267.
      IB BUSINESS & management
    2. 1. Think about it…
Shakespeare once said, “ Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon ‘em.”
What did he mean by this?
Someone once taught me, a manager manages things, but a leader leads people. You do not manage people.
So what does it take to be a good leader?
    3. 2. Focus Questions
What are the difference between a leader and a manager?
      Describe the nature of leadership.
      Evaluate the different leadership styles.

    4. 3a. An overview…
“Leaders aren't born they are made. And they are made just like anything else, through hard work. And that's the price we'll have to pay to achieve that goal, or any goal.” Vince Lombardi (June 11, 1913 – September 3, 1970), an American football coach.
In your own words, describe what is a leader?
      What is an effective leader?
A leader is someone who inspires others to get things done.
Will promote loyalty, motivation, and trust from their workforce.
      Management is about problem-solving.
For example, involved in the planning, organizing, budgeting, and controlling of tasks.
There are three levels of management with an organization:
      1. Senior management
      2. Middle management
      3. Junior management or supervisory management.

    5. 3b. An overview…
Leaders and managers are not always the same person.
You can be an excellent manager, but a very poor leader.
Managers are officially appointed to a position of power.
Leaders become known as the best person to handle a situation.

    6. 4. Nature of Leadership
Leadership is about influencing other people to achieve a vision or target.
Inspired and motivated employees will achieve the aims and objectives of the company.
What is the difference between an official leader and an informal leader?
One has the authority to give orders to other people, while the other has the ability to influence other people.
Lets take a look at the thought of two other people, Prof. Bennis and H. Mintzberg.
