    Play Pay it Forward clip

    Encourage students to provide support statements…”for example”

    Direct students to the If Everyone Cared handout. Elicit a volunteer to read the directions in the “thought bubble”; following the video students should highlight their hero and then share responses with their neighbor; direct students to then choose one person to reread Margaret Mead’s quote and to work together to paraphrase the quote. Elicit volunteers to share in whole class discussion.

    Direct students to the topics page for suggestions.

    If time allows you may want to show students the first minute of the pay it forward movie trailer as it demonstrates “Trevor’s” project to change the world.

    4. Play “If Everyone Cared” video clip
    5. Paraphrase Margaret Mead’s Quote. From “If Everyone Cared” music video
    6. If YOU could CHANGE ONE aspect in the world, what would it be and why?
    7. 1. DURING : View The Drum Major Instinct speech while thinking about MLK, Jr.’s message. 2. AFTER: Highlight the most POWERFUL phrase.
    8. YOUR HISTORY ASSIGNMENT Fulfill MLK, Jr.’s legacy by participating in 2 community service hours and championing a CAUSE
      • Brainstorm topics:
      • Write down your top 3 social issues.
      • Topics must be finalized by December
      • Do you need suggestions ?

    9. Review handouts. Highlight important details. Ask clarifying questions.
