Charles whelan poster analysis

  1. 1. The blue colour background connotes a highly masculine theme. This relates to the era of the movie. To be an anchorman was a male job role, however it defies conventions by having a female working with them. The era is also presented through the use of mise-enscene. An example of this would that they are wearing flamboyant clothing. The serious expressions mixed with the unflattering outfits implies the genre of the film as a comedy. The positioning of the characters within the frame present a hierarchy within the characters, which relates to their job role within the film. The masthead is bold and clear, this connotes to the personality of the characters within the movie. The Anchorman Official Poster The poster strongly advertises through the use of the well known actors, for example the main character is played by Will Ferrell, this is clear from the image, however his name is also presented above the name of the movie. This creates a hierarchy implying that its more important for the audience to see the actors name than the title of the film. The background is the back board used for the channel 4 news team when they present their show. The colour scheme is simple and bold, I believe this connotes to the humour presented within the film. The actors names aren't presented (excluding Will Ferrell) because the distributors expect the public to know who they are. By displaying the characters name ‘Ron Burgundy’ it creates a sense of brand identity as people are learning about the character before the movie has been released.
