  4. 4. Boolean Operators (Combination Searching) <ul><li>Use Quotation Marks to keep multi-worded terms or phrases together. </li></ul><ul><li>For Example: “skin cancer”, “Monterey Peninsula College” </li></ul>
  5. 5. Use the word AND to link different search terms and to narrow your topic For Example: “skin cancer” AND treatment, surfing AND “shark attack” AND California Boolean Operators (Combination Searching)
  6. 6. Boolean Operators (Combination Searching) <ul><li>Use the word NOT when you want to exclude a term from your search. </li></ul><ul><li>For Example: Dolphins NOT football </li></ul>

Boolean Operators (Combination Searching) <ul><li>Use the asterisk * (or other symbol depending on the database) to truncate search terms or use as wildcards </li></ul><ul><li>For Example: </li></ul><ul><li>Surf* would find Surfs, Surfer, Surfing, </li></ul><ul><li>Surfboard etc… </li></ul><ul><li>Wom*n would find Woman, Women, </li></ul><ul><li>Womyn… </li></ul>
