  2. 2. • The role of HRD within learningorganizations is becoming clearer, butmany uncertainties remain for HRDprofessionals, especially with regard tothe question of how to bring their newroles into practice.
  3. 3. • The “learning organization” is an importantmetaphor for HRD professionals to assist themin :• a) Developing collective intelligence within organizations and organizational formssupporting such a need thus eliminating theholding of knowledge in separatecompartments at different levels
  4. 4. • b) understanding the importance ofknowledge and in particular tacit knowledgewhich has to be recognized and valorized in sofar as it is embedded in human resources• c) moving from training baseddevelopment policies towards new policiesfostering learning in different ways
  5. 5. • Learning oriented organizations do employ a richbunch of change initiatives in which , no one typeof change is particularly dominant• The main motivator for wanting to become alearning organization is the desire to becomemore client centered by continuousimprovement and innovation. However, morepeople- oriented reasons such as improving thequality of working life seem to play a role as well.
