Transcript

  • 1. The Cell Cycle
Cells undergoing changes due to the cell cycle
  • 2. Introduction
The cell cycle consists of two parts:
    Interphase
    The mitotic phase (mitosis)
    A cell in interphase – G1
  • 3. Interphase
This is a time when it just performs its function normally
    Made up of three periods:
    G1: the cell grows
S: duplication of the cell’s DNA occurs
G2: the cell prepares to divide
The cell cycle in a pie chart
  • 4. Mitosis
This is the time when the cell needs to divide
    Made up of five periods:
    Prophase
    Metaphase
    Anaphase
    Telophase
    Cytokinesis
    The periods of mitosis
  • 5. Prophase
    The chromatin condense into chromosomes
    The nuclear envelope disappears
    Nuclear envelope disappearing
    Chromatins condensing
  • 6. Metaphase
The chromosomes align at the equatorial plate
    Chromosomes aligning
  • 7. Anaphase
    The sister chromatids separate
    The centromeres divide
    Separation of sister chromatids
  • 8. Telophase
    The chromatin expands
    Chromatin expanding
  • 9. Cytokinesis
    The cytoplasm divides
    Cytoplasm divides
  • 10. Bye Now
Good luck remembering all of this….
