What’s a “Promotion” Under
Facebook’s Guidelines
• Promotions typically include:
 Entry/registration
 Element of chance
 Giveaway or prize

What’s Changed?
• Promotions may now be administered on Brand Page
Timelines
 Not just apps
 Not personal timelines
 Via page is faster and easier and shows in Timelines
• So Now you Can:
 Collect entries by having users post on the Page or
comment/like a Page post (like Page?)
 Collect entries by having users message the Page

What Else Changed?
• Removed Requirement:
 Disclosure that the participant is providing
information to the Sponsor and not to
Facebook.
 That you can’t notify winners of your
sweepstakes through Facebook, such as
through Facebook messages, chat, or posts
on profiles or Pages

What Hasn’t Changed
• Can Still Run Promotions Via Apps
 Creating a promotion with an app on
Facebook allows a Page to create a more
personalized experience
 Promotions run through apps can collect
data in a secure, structured way
• Can’t have people enter by liking,
sharing, or posting something on their
personal Timeline

What Hasn’t Changed (Cont.)
• Rules for a Facebook promotion must
still include
 A complete release of Facebook by each
entrant or participant.
 Acknowledgment that the promotion is in
no way sponsored, endorsed or
administered by, or associated with,
Facebook.
• If conducting via an app – need privacy
policy

  • 3. What’s a “Promotion” Under Facebook’s Guidelines • Promotions typically include:  Entry/registration  Element of chance  Giveaway or prize 3
  • 4. What’s Changed? • Promotions may now be administered on Brand Page Timelines  Not just apps  Not personal timelines  Via page is faster and easier and shows in Timelines • So Now you Can:  Collect entries by having users post on the Page or comment/like a Page post (like Page?)  Collect entries by having users message the Page 4

  • 6. What Else Changed? • Removed Requirement:  Disclosure that the participant is providing information to the Sponsor and not to Facebook.  That you can’t notify winners of your sweepstakes through Facebook, such as through Facebook messages, chat, or posts on profiles or Pages 6
  • 7. What Hasn’t Changed • Can Still Run Promotions Via Apps  Creating a promotion with an app on Facebook allows a Page to create a more personalized experience  Promotions run through apps can collect data in a secure, structured way • Can’t have people enter by liking, sharing, or posting something on their personal Timeline 7

What Hasn’t Changed (Cont.) • Rules for a Facebook promotion must still include  A complete release of Facebook by each entrant or participant.  Acknowledgment that the promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, Facebook. • If conducting via an app – need privacy policy
