  • Living In Harmony 1 Peter 3:8-12
    • 1 Peter 8:3-12 (HCSB)
    • 8 Now finally, all of you should be like-minded and sympathetic, should love believers, and be compassionate and humble,
    • 9 not paying back evil for evil or insult for insult but, on the contrary, giving a blessing, since you were called for this, so that you can inherit a blessing.
    • 10 For the one who wants to love life and to see good days must keep his tongue
    • from evil and his lips from speaking deceit,
    • 11 and he must turn away from evil and do good. He must seek peace and pursue it,
    • 12 because the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and His ears are open to their request. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.
  • I. Walk in another’s shoes
    • 8 Now finally, all of you should be like-minded and sympathetic …
  • To be sympathetic means to understand or affirm someone’s feelings . It does not mean that we validate their ideas.
  • We may not know why conflict has arisen, but understanding the roots of it is the first step in diffusing it.
  • II. Remember you are on the Same Team
    • 8b . . . should love believers, and be compassionate and humble …
  • We don’t compete We compliment EACH OTHER
  • Teammates display three important actions that diffuse conflict.
    • Love
    • Compassion
    • Humility
  • III. Give a Blessing
    • 9 not paying back evil for evil or insult for insult but, on the contrary, giving a blessing, since you were called for this, so that you can inherit a blessing.
  • In any relationship, there will be times of disagreement and conflict.
    • We are faced with a choice:
    • to reciprocate or
    • respond with a blessing.
  • Choose:
    • Words that tear apart a relationship or
    • Words that build up a relationship.
  • IV. Control your Tongue
    • 10 For the one who wants to love life and to see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit …
  • The mark of spiritual and emotional maturity is the ability
    • To master our mouth
    • To watch our words, and
    • To tame our tongue.
  • Is your tongue under control?
  • V. Pursue Peace
    • 11 and he must turn away from evil and do good. He must seek peace and pursue it…
  • The job of peacemakers is to resolve and diffuse conflict, NOT to start fights.
  • In the end, why should we diffuse conflict?
    • Because it makes us like God.
  • Few things are more God-like than diffusing conflict
  • REMEMBER
    • Walk in another’s shoes
    • Remember you are on the Same Team
    • Give a Blessing

    • Pursue Peace
  • What is Your Response Today ?
    • To get your relationship with God right?
    • To get your relationship with family right?
    • To get your relationship with others right?
