• Bullying at School is sadly something that has become fairly common. With all of the peer pressure and constant negative feelings in kids.As a way of helping everyone especially the parents, who still find it quite hard to manage issues like this, I found this great application which featured a safety app which gets me connected to a Safety Network or escalate my call to the nearest 911 when needed, it has other cool features that are helpful for your kids with just a press of a Panic Button. #SafekidZone, Check it here: http://bit.ly/ZjYchC

  • I hope schools take great actions in resolving so many bullying issues left unheard. I am a parent and I'm worried and I don't want that any kid to experience this. As a way of helping everyone especially the parents, who find it quite hard to manage time, I found this great Safety Service which featured a safety app which gets me connected to a Safety Network or escalate my call to the nearest 911 when needed, it has other cool features that are helpful for your kids with just a press of a Panic Button. #SafekidZone, Check it here: http://bit.ly/ZjYchC

  • I found it very Interesting to see a view through the eyes of a student on this subject. It is a hard subject to address but definetly one that we need to talk about.
My name is Renee' and I am one of Professor Fryer's students in the technology 4 teachers class at the University of Central Oklahoma. Your presentation is now a part of my website because I think this is a vital topic. To help you create awareness I have put you on my website.

Another part of my assignment, is to include a constructive comment to prepare us for doing these when we start teaching. I loved everything about it. You presented your point of veiw clearly and grammatically correct. Everyone of your links were helpful. I had never seen the columbine footage on youtube.

I would like to make a suggestion for an observation, that came to my mind, I noticed while look at the slides. There is one slide where the writing is very small. I figure it was to conserve space. I am not familiar with this website, so I don't know if there is a number restriction on slides or not. If there is not a number restriction, I would suggest having all text at the same size and one that is easy for the average person to read.

A senior citizen might want to see what you have to say and I could see where it would be impossible for them to read one of the slides. This would not apply if you were only speaking to a specific age group in your presentation. I would like to encourage you to continue to speak out against violence. Great job and thanks for sharing. :)

What We’Re Doing To Stop The Violence

  1. 1. What We’re doing to stop the violence
2. 2. Violence in schools has decreased rapidly since the early 1990s
Contrary to public perception, violent crime in schools has declined dramatically since 1994.
The annual rate of serious violent crime in 2005 (5 per 1,000 students)
These data are victim reports collected as part of the National Crime Victimization Survey and are not derived from school records.
3. 3. School violence in the u.s.
There has been numerous attacks on high schools and colleges over the years.
Attacks such as the violent shooting at the University of Texas at Austin, Columbine High School in Colorado, or the more recent one, the brutal shooting at Virginia Tech.
4. 4. Reasons why school violence occurs.
Gang related violence
Drug related violence
Psychological Problems
Bullying/ Hazing
Social Groups
5. 5. All of these massacres could have been prevented..
Charles Whitman killed 14 people at the University of Texas at Austin.
The killer of 33 college students at Virginia Tech.
The shooters in the 1999 took their own lives after murdering 12 classmates and 1 teacher.
6. 6.
  7. 7. What’s being done to stop the violence?
Projects in all 50 states are doing something to prevent students from using violence as a way of giving back to people who have lost loved ones in tragic shootings, gang fights, etc.
Administrators all over are watching closer to the details at their schools to make sure nothing like these massacres happens again.
8. 8. Stop the violence…
It is necessary for the schools in the United States to take more action in order to keep the students safe during the day. It is obvious that schools are not safe, forcing everyone to take a part in stopping the violent behavior which takes place in schools on a daily basis. There are many warning signs and ways to prevent this violence from taking place, it is just a matter of using money more wisely and creating more programs for preventing violence before it erupts in schools. There is no excuse for students to feel unsafe in an environment which the government forces them to be in. It is necessary that more action take place and that more training take place in order for schools to be safer, and in the event where violence does occur, the staff of the school is equipped to stop it before it gets out of hand. There is no time like now to keep the children and our schools safe from predators and especially from school violence.
