Informative slide show about food aid created for Empty Bowls 2009 - Presentation Transcript

    1. Welcome to Empty Bowls!
      • Because of your generosity…
      • River City Community Services
      • is there for people like…
    2. Lucinda – a toddler who is getting enough food to grow healthy and strong. 40% of the food RCCS provides is for children like her.
    3. Ralph – a disabled Korean veteran. Seniors now represent 10% of our clients, but the need is growing as they struggle to meet basic living expenses.
    4. Beth – She is raising two teenage sons while working part-time. 35% of those who come to River City Community Services are “working poor”.
      • Beth told us:
      • “ People are prideful. They don’t want other people to know they need help like this.”
      • The government now says the r ecession began in December 2007…
      • Want to know how we knew?
    5. We looked outside the window
    6. We watched the lines grow
    7. And our shelves grow bare
    8. RCCS served a record 3,801 people in November 2008
    9. And 36,305 people in 2008… Up almost 50% from 2006
      • Because of your generosity,
      • RCCS was able to provide all of these families and individuals with a 3-day emergency food supply
      • Almost everywhere we look,
      • we see the signs of troubled times in our community…
    10. From Oak Park to…
    11.
    12. Arden Way…
    13. Fulton Avenue…
    14. … Fair Oaks Blvd.
    15. And the suburbs…
    16.
