    Notes on slide 1

It’s time to talk about how to talk. Communications is the foundation of advocacy. As an advocate, your job is to build support for your position - whatever that may be. It is to persuade people, to motivate them to take action or refrain from a particular action. Advocating is a specific way of communicating. So, how do we communicate? How do we persuade people to agree with what we have to say? How do we make sure that what we are communicating is accurate? Communication 101 is going to cover the basics of communicating with different audiences. We’ll discuss how to develop key messages, how to tailor your style of communication to fit your audience, and how to be strategic as you communicate and motivate your audience to take the action you want them to.
