    1. Alcoholism is considered a serious problem in our society today. It affects almost everyone and the incidence is increasing in women and adolescents. The cause of alcoholism is not known but there are some factors that lead to alcoholism. One is family history of alcoholism and mental illness. Second factor is peer pressure. It is important that we stop alcoholism before it even begins. There are four phases in alcohol addiction. The earliest phase is the prealcoholic phase. The alcoholic drinks almost everyday to reduce pressure and there is an increase in the amount of alcohol consumption. Blackouts, secret drinking and large amounts of alcohol are ingested in the Addiction phase. The third phase which is the Dependence Phase, physical cravings for alcohol, rationalization, loss of appetite, aggressive behavior are present in this phase. In the last phase or the chronic phase, there are long periods of intoxication, impaired thinking and less alcohol produces sedation tremors. What are the other symptoms of alcoholism? Eating disorders like loss of appetite, anxiety, lack of control over alcoholic drinking, excessive alcohol consumption, irritability, alcohol tolerance, Denial, paranoia, depression. First, that person should recognize he is suffering from alcoholism. Accept and understand your loved one, you should be willing to help that loved one to recover from

The family’s love and support is vital to the recovery of the alcoholic from his addiction. It is important that once the symptoms began to appear, communication lines should be open to prevent further damage to the situation and the person himself. It is difficult to do than to say, but we should be willing to try the best that we can to help the person we love overcome his addiction.
