  • 2. 1.PrepareYourTomatoSeeds To grow great-tasting tomatoes, you'll need to purchase some high-quality seeds. Tomato heirloom seeds are a popular choice because they're organic, easy to grow, and come in severalvarieties.
  • 3. 2.RaisethePlantsinaWarmArea Before you can plant in your garden, you'll need to plant the seeds in little containers first and raise them indoors for a while. An ideal location is in a greenhouse or inside your housebyawindowthatgetsenoughsunlight.
  • 4. 3.TransplanttoYourGarden After a month indoors, you can finally move the tomato plants to yourbackyard.

TransplantingTips: • Plantinanareathatgets7hoursofdailysunlight. • Usegoodsoilwithplentyoforganicmatterinit. • Bury½ or¾ oftheplantforbettersupport. • Leave 30-48 inches of space in between the plants todiscouragediseases. • After transplanting, feed a gallon of warm water over every plant right away to keep the plants from beingshocked. • Add adequate amounts of slow-releasing fertilizer duringplantingforfresherandjuicierharvests. • Cover the plant stems with wax paper for cutworm prevention. • Cage or stake your tomato plants to enhance air circulationandpreventpestsinyourgarden.
  • 6. 4.WaterYourTomatoes Wait 7 days after transplanting, give 16 ounces of water to each plant daily. 2 weeks after transplanting, begin watering theplantstwiceweekly(0.75to1gallonperweek). Increase the amount a bit during hotter days and when theplantsaregettingbigger. Water early in the morning so that the plants will be dry by nighttime.
  • 7. 5.MaintainthePlants Takecare ofthem regularly if youwanta continuoussupply of fresh tomatoes. Prune the plants from time to time and make suretheyalwaysgettherightamountofwaterandsunlight.
