How effective is the combination of
main product and ancillary texts?
Titles
Throughout all three products we used a similar font for the titles to show that this is
our film title throughout each product. We found this font was used on a few other
horror film trailers epically the Conjuring teaser trailer. We used this font and had a
similar font on each of our three products. For example we used the same film title
font throughout each product.
The film title and the tagline are the only similar titles that are shown on all three of
the products as the other titles were not epically need on all of the products. Most of
the colouring of the titles was also the same which was the white colour font. This was
to make our title standout with the black background.
The titles did work well for all three products as it was easy to see and notice that it
was the title of the film along with the tagline under the title. The film title was bigger
to show this.
Main Image
On all of the products its main image is to give the
audience a view of the films promotion. Its to bring in an
audience for the film and for the audience to get an in
sight of the films genre. Each of the products use a
similar design and colours to give the audience a view
that it would be some form of thriller or horror.
On each of the products it also uses similar characters.
Only on the poster does it not show the male character
but on each of the products it shows the female
character. As it uses these characters it shows that the
main focus would be on these characters.
Tagline
In all of the products the tagline is used. For example
on the magazine cover and poster the tagline can be
found just below the title saying ‘If you go down to the
woods..’ which is also said in our teaser trailer.
The tagline is longer in the teaser trailer as it says what
is after the ‘..’ and gives the viewer a sense of where
the film could be set. The taglines main focus is to
make the audience wonder what could happen and
what could be within the woods.
Characters
On all three of the final products it uses similar
characters on each. On all three of the products it uses
the same female character showing that she would be
a main focus to the film. On the magazine cover and
teaser trailer it uses the male character but does not
use him on the poster. Both of these characters wear
similar outfits in all of these products.
Mise en scene
Colour scheme: Throughout the teaser trailer it uses a dark type colour
scheme to give the viewer a sense that it would be night or have a dark type
setting. On the magazine cover and poster it also uses a dark background. The
poster uses a dark forest area at the top and below the female character. The
magazine cover uses a lighter colour of the characters but still uses some dark
colours on it.
Costumes: On all three of the products the characters costumes are the same.
For example the boy character wears a similar/ the same type of outfit in the
magazine cover to the teaser trailer and the female character uses the same
outfit throughout each of the products.
Target Audience
Each of our products are aimed at the same target audience
because the film would only want to aim their products to bring
in this audience.
Each of the products use a way that the target audience would
see the product. For example most likely young adults or
teenagers would notice the film from Empire magazines, posters
or mostly the trailers being advertised. Our films target
audience was young adults or teenagers which would be
interested in horror films.
Billing Block
The billing block is only used on our poster. This is because most
of the trailers and magazine we found did not use a billing block
on them whereas the posters we found did have a billing block at
the bottom. This is why we added the billing block only on the
poster and not on any of the other final products.

On the magazine cover and teaser trailer it uses the male character but does not use him on the poster. Both of these characters wear similar outfits in all of these products.
  • 6. Mise en scene Colour scheme: Throughout the teaser trailer it uses a dark type colour scheme to give the viewer a sense that it would be night or have a dark type setting. On the magazine cover and poster it also uses a dark background. The poster uses a dark forest area at the top and below the female character. The magazine cover uses a lighter colour of the characters but still uses some dark colours on it. Costumes: On all three of the products the characters costumes are the same. For example the boy character wears a similar/ the same type of outfit in the magazine cover to the teaser trailer and the female character uses the same outfit throughout each of the products.
  • 7. Target Audience Each of our products are aimed at the same target audience because the film would only want to aim their products to bring in this audience. Each of the products use a way that the target audience would see the product. For example most likely young adults or teenagers would notice the film from Empire magazines, posters or mostly the trailers being advertised. Our films target audience was young adults or teenagers which would be interested in horror films.
  • 8. Billing Block The billing block is only used on our poster. This is because most of the trailers and magazine we found did not use a billing block on them whereas the posters we found did have a billing block at the bottom. This is why we added the billing block only on the poster and not on any of the other final products.
