  3. 3. <ul><li>Jim Crow Laws were laws that enforced segregation. These laws existed from 1877 to the mid -1960’s. Although these laws were more enforced in the south… They ended up changing all aspects of life. </li></ul>

  6. 6. <ul><li>Civil rights stared by a black woman name ROSA PARKS. In 1955 she got on a bus and she refused to give up he seat to a white man. </li></ul><ul><li>Martin Luther King became the leader of the bus boycott. </li></ul><ul><li>In 1964 the civil rights law gave all Americans equal rights like educations, employments and the use of Public places. </li></ul>
  7. 7. <ul><li>Born: </li></ul><ul><li>January15 ,1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. </li></ul><ul><li>Experience: </li></ul><ul><li>From an early age King knew what segregation was and what it meant. </li></ul><ul><li>He loved to study…so he went to </li></ul><ul><li>College. </li></ul><ul><li>Civil rights: </li></ul><ul><li>After college he began to fight </li></ul><ul><li>Segregation, but he didn’t believe in </li></ul><ul><li>Violence. </li></ul><ul><li>In 1963 he became the leader of </li></ul><ul><li>The civil rights movement. </li></ul>
  8. 8. <ul><li>Peace: </li></ul><ul><li>In March 1963 Martin Luther king Jr. gave the still famous speech “I have a Dream”. </li></ul><ul><li>In 1964 he won a Nobel Peace Prize. </li></ul><ul><li>Assassination: </li></ul><ul><li>Unfortunately In April 4,1968 </li></ul><ul><li>Martin Luther king was assassinated. </li></ul><ul><li>January15 is martin Luther king day. </li></ul><ul><li>A national holiday… </li></ul>
  9. 9. <ul><li>December 1955 Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on bus to a white man. </li></ul><ul><li>She got arrested in MONTGOMERY,ALABAMA. </li></ul><ul><li>African America decided to protest. </li></ul><ul><li>Martin Luther King became the leader of the Civil Rights Moment. </li></ul><ul><li>Rosa Parks arrest stared to change a lot of thing. </li></ul><ul><li>In November 1956 the boycott ended in Victory for the African-American Community. </li></ul>
  10. 10. <ul><li>A boycott is a way of protesting, by not using a product or service in order to make a change </li></ul><ul><li>The Montgomery bus boycott started </li></ul><ul><li>when Rosa Parks, got arrested for sitting </li></ul><ul><li>at “the white section of the bus. </li></ul><ul><li>Many African Americans were angry </li></ul><ul><li>about this…So in 1955 Martin Luther King Jr. </li></ul><ul><li>stepped up as a leader. </li></ul><ul><li>Blacks in Montgomery refused to ride the busses for a year. </li></ul><ul><li>The bus companies almost went broke because most of the passengers were black. </li></ul><ul><li>At the end bus companies allowed African Americans to sit anywhere on the busses. </li></ul>

  13. 14. <ul><li>Family: Odessa has a husband (Hebert), </li></ul><ul><li>two sons(Theodore and Franklin)and a </li></ul><ul><li>daughter (Selma). </li></ul><ul><li>Job: Odessa is one of the maids at the </li></ul><ul><li>Thompson house. </li></ul><ul><li>Religion: Christian. </li></ul><ul><li>Color: African American(Black). </li></ul><ul><li>Odessa is… a hard worker, honest, strong, forgiving, understanding, determined, calm, thankful, hopeful and kind. </li></ul>
  14. 15. <ul><li>Mirian wanted to help the maid. </li></ul><ul><li>She also went and found out that Odessa was walking to work at Miriam’s house to take care of the girl, so Miriam decided to pick up Odessa and bring her to work. </li></ul><ul><li>Miriam also wanted to help Odessa. </li></ul>
  15. 16. <ul><li>Family: Has a wife, the rest of the </li></ul><ul><li>Thompson family(Norman, Miriam, </li></ul><ul><li>Mary Catherine, etc) </li></ul><ul><li>Job: Unknown </li></ul><ul><li>Religion: Christian </li></ul><ul><li>Tunker is … racist, unfair, inconsiderate, ignorant, conceded and a bigot. </li></ul><ul><li>Quotes: “If she rather walk bleed the soles of her feet… until she begs to ride that bus”. </li></ul><ul><li>“ They’ll ask for more and do less” </li></ul>
  16. 17. <ul><li>Norman also went and showed his daughters the he made some streets called their names. </li></ul><ul><li>At Christmas time it was his first time talking to Odessa. </li></ul><ul><li>Norman’s family was talking really badly about the maid. Also they were telling them to change the maid for a white </li></ul><ul><li>maid. </li></ul>
