School Magazines differ in the way they make magazines compared to music magazines. School magazines have not got a set of codes and conventions they always follow. If you look at two different school magazines they look totally different from each other. School magazines are not made to impress as they are for parents and students to get information. For example in slide 3 the school front cover does not have a masthead or a pug/barcode. This is alright as they are probably handed out to students and parents at the school. However, if you look at the three music magazine front covers (slide 8,9 &10) they all have a masthead, a barcode and a pug. Since school magazines and music magazines have different audiences they use different techniques and different codes and conventions. Compared to music magazine, school magazines are dull and plain. If someone saw a typical music magazine next to a typical school magazine the person who probably pick the music magazine. This is because music magazine are for entertainment and aim to make their magazines more appealing so they sell more. School magazines are mainly for Information/education so they do not really need to make it look eye-catching but it does help as little codes and conventions like lures and features, seen frequently in music magazines, make the reader want to read the magazine. Also school magazines don’t always have people with lots of experience in making magazines whereas music magazines do. So School magazine differ to music magazines in the way they apply codes and conventions due to the fact that they are for different purposes and are targeting different audiences.
